Thoughts on the election

First one? Break out the KY. We're gonna need it.

Luckily, a number of my friends have much more eloquent thoughts on the subject, and as I read them I find myself thinking "me, too". (I hope they don't mind that I have linked to them.)

No, I don't mind being linked in; thanks! Besides, your first line gave me my first laugh of the day, and God knows I needed it.

You're lucky to be in liberal land, I suppose. Out here in CO . . . well, we did have some wins, didn't we? A Dem senator, a Dem legislature, we took a House seat, passed a bunch of liberal-agenda measures - weird! But in Big Picture-land, it's Big Sigh time for me.

And I'm like you: I have a good job, I have enough money to live on, no one's trying to ban me from anything (yet), and so on. You're just right in that it's not about us per se, but about people as a whole. As a whole big nation, are we doing right by everyone, or as right as we could be doing? That's what getting under my skin.

Then I force myself not to think about it until it comes around again in five minutes. :)

I didn't realize quite how liberal Maryland was until this election -- DC, too, and Northern Virginia.

One of my classmates (who's from Nepal, so I guess he has an excuse) was saying he thought CA was primarily Republican because they elected Arnold.

I still haven't quite figured out the Arnold thing. In general he hasn't been too bad though, because he's a fairly moderate Republican. My main concern is how he and the state are responding to Indian casino revenue, basically attempting to use it as a crutch to balance the budget when revenues from taxes went down. There were two state propositions that were related to this, neither of which passed, which means that the governor will "negotiate" with tribes about payment of some amount of taxes, etc. In the ads for these propositions, the catch phrase was "they should all pay their fair share". My opinion? They paid their fair share when you took their land, killed their families and suppresed their culture.
