Wow, really? *ponders* Huh, if anything, I thought it would've been the other way around. Given the infamous 'We sort too soon' line from that douchebag Dumbles, which seemed to suggest that Snape should've been a Gryffindor since he was awesome, and by extent, not Slytherin.

Is Dumbledore Gryffindor? 'coz that way, the line makes sense, but I honestly don't see any other Gryffs who behave in a Slytherin manner.

I agree with Dumbledore's line... out of context. Otherwise I have to echo Annie above me about the implication behind the line, in context, being full of jackassery. It comes off as very smug amd self-righteous. But Snape is totally a Slytherin. Everything he did post-defection was to redeem himself before Lily; that was his endgame. Perhaps it was a selfish endgame, because I sincerely doubt he would've done anything for Harry otherwise (he certainly left everybody else to their own devices if he didn't have a personal reason not to).
