Summary: Chapter two finally reaches the school, and the sorting.
Character List: Anna Pelovsky, made up character. It's her point of view we'll be looking at, I suppose. It's set in the Marauders Era, cause I like that more.
Pairings: I've planned none so far. But I've decided to use the information pre-Deathly Hallows. So there won't be any worry about any ridiculous spoilers. Yay for creative leniance.
Genre: I never really thought about Genre. This first chapter has a bit of drama I suppose.
Warnings: I don't see of any warnings necessitated. Other than that I've taken some creative leniance with ages.
Other: So I've mixed some ages up. Because it's more how I pictures them when I read the book, and it flows better in my mind, alrightty? Also, I've posted this in a guild on gaiaonline, though it only has the first two or three chapters. So I'm still working. I hope to create something lovely for you!
Anna didn't respond. The boy across from her looked up from his book, but took her lead and said nothing. "I asked you a question first year." The blond haired boy said. "And when Lucius Malfoy asks you a question you better bloody well answer." He furrowed his brow, and drew his wand.
Anna raised an eyebrow, and murmured a few Russian curse words before speaking, her accent heavy marking her as obviously not from the region. Even through the accent though, her tone was cold, yet silky, and even a little taunting."Would you live with yourself if you hexed such an obviously unprepared witch?"
Cissy sprang forward. "How dare you speak to him like that!" She exclaimed. The four first year boys had been abandoned by the elder students, though they still looked on. Sirius looked rather dumbfounded. He'd never seen anyone like Malfoy and his cousins take interest in someone that wasn't a threat or a use to them.
Lucius thought for a moment, he was gazing at Anna with a look that made her rather uncomfortable. "Well, first year's got a mouth on her." He smoothed out his robes. "You'll soon find who the blood traitors are, girl. You don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort. We can help you there." And with a distinct look at Sirius and his friends, he turned and left.
Bella took a moment to whack Sirius over the head with her wand before leaving with the others. And the moment they were gone, the boys began speaking frantically.
"What a bloody hag.. this is what I'll have to deal with. "
"No way Sirius.. you have to be in the same house as us."
"You'll probably get Ravenclaw, Remus.. too bad for us, we're too stupid for Ravenclaw."
"Here's hoping for Gryffindor."
Anna looked at the boy before her. "We best be changing into our robes." She murmured, really the first time she acknowledged the hook nosed boy before her. "I'm Anna by the way." She shrugged off a reluctant smile before leaving the compartment to change.
From what she had seen, Anna definitely preferred that Lucius Malfoy and his party to the rowdy boys she had been sharing a compartment with. All of whom seemed simply ridiculous.
After changing, the eleven year old barely had time to go back to the compartment before the train pulled up. In fact, she didn't make it. Which was unfortunate, because her book..
"Excuse me?" The pale boy from her compartment tapped her on the shoulder. "You.. err.. you forgot this.." He handed her the book, holding his own in his other hand. "I'm Severus by the way.. Severus Snape." He didn't smile, or if he did it was blocked by a combination of darkness and a curtain of dark hair.
A would-be response was cut off by a booming voice. "Firs' years! Firs' years follow me, Four to a boat." A giant of a man was waving a lantern back and forth, and Anna could only scrunch her nose in disgust. Obviously some sort of half-breed. In Russia, they would have never let that near children, or anyone for that matter.
She climbed into a boat, followed closely by Severus, and soon after joined by two more boys, identified by each other as Wilkes and Rosier. The voyage to the school was uneventful, if not for the small talk between the boys behind Anna and Severus.
"Welcome to Hogwarts." A stark woman stood on the landing as they got out of their boats. She said nothing more before they reached a set of grand doors. Anna looked up in awe. Already, this school was much bigger than any place she had seen. Her home had been large, for the area. Though in St. Petersburg, everything was large.
"I am Professor McGonagall." The woman took a breath, as though she was tired of saying the same thing to first years every year. Though, when she wpoke, it didn't sound exceptionally rehearsed. "Now, in a few moments you will pass through these doors and join your classmates. But before you take your seats, you must be sorted into your houses. They are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Now while you're here your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you points. Any rule breaking and you will loose points. At the end of the year, the houses with the most points is awarded the house cup." She gave a tense smile than walked through the doors.
Moments later, they were called through.
Anna doubted that there had been a group of more nervous looking children. It seemed that most had no idea how they were to be sorted. Some had an idea, others looked as though there would be some sort of showdown, though most were just nervous as all eyes were on them.
Before they began, the headmaster, introduced as Dumbledore (odd name really) spoke a few words concerning safety. Then, they were called.
It was a really boring and drawn out process, though Anna did note that all four boys from the compartment, Lupin, Remus; Potter, James; Pettigrew, Peter; and Black, Sirius were all sorted into Gryffindor. Along with Evans, Lily.
Every sorting was met by applause from the appropriate table. And it wasn't until after Pettigrew, Peter that Anna was called.
She went up, and sat on the stool, the hat lowered onto her head by professor McGonagall. The thing barely touched her head before it shouted out it's answer...
