Snape makes a comment (at least in the movie) that they "fight like an old married couple" in the Shrieking Shack. Why would Sirius know how to handle Remus in his werewolf form if they were not very close? A werewolf is not supposed to recognize anyone from his life, yet it seems that Remus has the ability to recognize Sirius in some manner if he does not kill Sirius in his animagus form.
