This is beautiful! A very realistic depiction of the family's grief. I especially loved your details about the apple stems, flying Fred's broom, and Harry's trying to comfort Ginny. Excellent work! I'm looking forward to reading the rest . . . :)

I had to regroup because my first response was incredibly embarassing. This is wonderful. Absolutly, incredibly, breath-takingly wonderful. Is autumn your favorite season? You completely nailed it on the head. And that isn't even getting into the feelings of loss and grief and the those little details. Ahhh. Apples and those brisk mornings that turn into warm days. Love it! And, I have to say, there is no need to apologize for the length. I logged in and saw 1/4 (before I saw who the recipient was, btw) and startled the kids when I yelled out "AWESOME!"

It's lovely. I was so moved by the whole last segment with Harry comforting Ginny with what he learned about death when he was facing it with his mum and dad and Remus and Sirius. I love the final paragraph- Around them the wind plucks orange and red leaves from branches, carries them up in a spiral motion before cradling them back down to the earth. Ginny, through tears, sees the leaves in a swirl of autumn colors, then, slowly, turning towards him, focuses on Harry’s green irises, bright in the light of the morning sun.
It's so beautiful and hopeful and so like Autumn.
