VID: Exit Music (For A Witch)

Jan 28, 2009 11:18

This is what I have been doing since I finished my exams. Well, since mid-December, technically.

Exit Music (For A Witch)
Vidder: Lila Futuransky (heyiya)
Fandom: Merlin (BBC)
Music: Radiohead, Exit Music (For A Film)
Characters: Morgana, Nimueh, magic
Summary: The fall of Camelot is not the only tragedy. Or, how Morgana learned to stop worrying and love Nimueh her destiny.
Dedicated to cathexys, who loved the idea enough to convince me it needed to be made even though lots of better vidders have made Morgana vids and who then held my hand through the period of nasty exams that intervened between my starting this and finishing it. Thank you!
Beta: cathexys, kiki_miserychic and, winning the prize for most ironic beta (but not really given the theme of the vid), renowned Merlin hater thingswithwings. You all made it a thousand times better than it would have been.

Notes (contain spoilers for Merlin S1, as does the vid; you may prefer to watch the vid before reading what I was trying to do with it):
I thought Merlin was harmless and very, very cute, more or less, until the final episodes. After writing my post about how unfair the death of Nimueh and the way Merlin gets rewarded for turning on his own kind was, I cheered myself up by writing a vague AU in my head in which Nimueh realises that Merlin's a lost cause, shows Morgana how everyone is screwing her over by trying to protect her from herself, and the two of them work together (while having lots of witchy lesbian sex, obviously) fomenting a revolution to return magic and the Old Religion to Britain. Then I went to sleep and woke up with this vid in my head. It is on one level the vid of that AU, but I also think of it as critique-cum-prophesy that's not incompatible with myth and/or show canon; I tried to reframe the BBC's refiguration of Arthuriana for those of us who imprinted on Morgaine in Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Mists of Avalon.

Because evil sorceresses will always be my favourite.

And because I can apparently only make vids about the revolution.

ETA: woldy had the same reaction I did and made it into a wonderful fic.

merlin, i made a thing, fannish, vidding
