Plus too many academics fail to see the wood for the trees - you can get a lot further if you understand how the economic system is leading one's discipline in one direction or another.
She was inspiring. I know some people find (or found at the time) her too, em... conservative would be the wrong word. Not radical enough for their tastes. But I like her. I'd go hear her again.
I was actually reading about just this very minute, and beginning to compose my email of protest to the UM deans. What. The. Fuck. I mean, it's not like I haven't been aware of racist and sexist practices in hiring/tenuring professors (my own institution does *not* have a great record) but for someone with her record it's just... I don't have words. But yeah, I heard.
