I cannot believe I am about to post a blog entry about Lady Gaga, but here goes:

Okay. So. Lately the internet has been all a flutter because Gaga's new single, Born This Way sounds a little too much like Madonna's Express Yourself.

...much the way it was all a flutter when Alejandro sounded a little too much like everything ever released by ( Read more... )

I love you for many reasons.

This is another to add to the list.

I'm guilty of this myself, though mainly because I was expecting something a bit more aggressive from her instead of something that sounded so very close to something I've heard in the early 1990s. That's my own fault, though. I've done this before with other artists. (Seriously, you should have heard me ramble about the Corrs back in 2000 when they went from quasi-soft baked Celtic pop to full-fledged sugar pop.)

I'm still super stoked about her new album. I refuse to make any serious judgment calls until I've heard all of it. You and I is reason enough to love it. That song is fucking brilliant.

You and I is brilliant!

I was surprised at first too, because the general trend seems to be that her music is getting darker/edgier with each new single, then all of a sudden it's like BAM! BUBBLEGUM LOVE LOVE TIME.

I noticed your entry on the matter. You actually supported your argument. I get where you were coming from. Everyone else was just like "OMG IT'S NOT ORIGINAL ENOUGH RAWR." Everyone is entitled to their opinion, especially when it comes to music, but there were just too many people complaining at once, for all the wrong reasons, and it gave me a headache.

P.S. I heart your icon.

No, it's not original, but original pop music does not exist. There's a reason that it appeals to the masses and becomes popular: it's about love and fame and selfishness and everything else that people want/are. Nobody has written anything new in decades. Gaga at least admits it and celebrates it, but makes it sexy as hell in the process. She also writes for her fans, which is something not everyone does. They write and expect them to love what they've written, but she approaches it differently and I love her for it, even if I don't care for this particular song. Not everything can be the next Speechless or Brown Eyes.

And yes, I heart my icon as well. I'd like to do more than just that, though. Sigh. I would do shameful things to that woman. Shaaaaameful.
