This is absolutely fantastic. You get inside of both their heads so well, and you use Jason's insomnia brilliantly.

It's full of absolutely brilliant bits, but I think this is my favourite:

Relax. Breathe. It’s down to guts, not technique, Howard had told him over and over again until finally it clicked. Jason thinks he should’ve realised sooner that rule doesn’t apply to just backflips, and maybe that’s the lesson he should have learned twenty-odd years ago.

Absolutely lovely.

I love how you worked their actual history into the story with that bit in such a genius way. Definitely gave me one of those "I wish I'd written that" moments.

You had absolutely nothing to be worried about with this story. You may have had a hard time with them, but that's nowhere evident in the story, and it's just full of beautiful moments between the two of them.

The homely atmosphere you've created is entirely lovely (especially loved the bumping into each other in the kitchen and the minor bickering over the cupboard organization ;)). You give the little things so much meaning! Very touching to see Jason's agonizingly slow surrender to feeling at home. A true pleasure to read this!
