Methos stood behind the yellow-tape, trying to remain inconspicuous. The decapitated body lay there, surrounded by the scorch marks of lightning hitting ground. The police walked around it and talked amongst themselves. The forensics team was en-route. He should get out of here.

River's heels clicked quietly on the blackened road as she made her way closer to the crime scene. She could hear comments on the breeze, but nothing concrete enough to go on. She tried to get closer when one of the officers quickly stopped her. He quickly told her it was a crime scene and that she needed to stay back. He was patronising, she could tell that much. Well, it was the era. But she didn't appreciate the way he got a good look at her dress while he was trying to direct her down the street.
With a chuckle, River tilted her head, spreading a smile that said she was looking forward to her retort. "Well, I would 'take my pretty little self' down there, but I'm Dr Song and I think you'll find you need my assistance." There was then a flash of psychic paper and bumbling apologies from the police officer.
Methos heard her before he saw her. Turning his head in search of her, he spotted her talking to an officer. He approached, keeping his now bloody sword hidden under his trenchcoat.
Spotting a familiar figure walking towards them, River saw Methos over the police officer's shoulder. She stepped aside to address him, now entirely ignoring the police officer. "Well, isn't this a surprise?" she said, but judging by her smile, she knew full well she'd find him around here.
"I should say the same to you, but I've stopped being surprised when I see you when I least expect it." he smiled, completely ignoring the officer as well. If you acted natural and like you were supposed to be there, people seldom questioned it.
"Then surely by now you should know to always expect me," she taunted good-naturedly, stepping past the police officer and joining Methos as she walked towards the crime scene. "I heard the rumours," she said, soon getting down to business. "Word travels fast around here, at least, if you're listening in the right places."
"Like I said, rumours," said River, walking on ahead and naturally expecting Methos to follow her. "I'd been hoping I might find something more conclusive here."
"What are you suggesting?" River asked, arching an eyebrow curiously as she turned her head to look at him. The rumours spoke of some kind of unnatural death, inclining her to believe it was some kind of alien involvement. He seemed to be suggesting something more.
That made her pause and drew her attention to something that had been niggling at her since she first saw him. Reaching forward, she silently pulled apart his coat, only enough to get a glimpse of the sword he carried before she quickly allowed it to close. "I see."
