Name: Narcissa Black
Format: Artifact
Date: 09 January 1976
Relevance: A very rare and dangerous gift given to Severus O. Snape on the occasion of his coming of age.
Archivist's Notes: The book is a compilation of spells and potions created/used by the Russian witch, Elena Belikova (1728-1773), whose initials are burned into the front. Belikova was the matriarch of the Russian pureblood family who married into the Blacks in the late eighteenth century. She was executed and her works destroyed after it was determined she was 'a grievous threat to wizarding kind and the future of magic'. The disappearance of more than two hundred Muggles have been attributed to her 'research' into the intertwined nature of magic and blood.
One copy is rumoured to be with the remaining Belikovs and another in the Black library at Grimmauld. No trace of the origin of this copy or location the fourth have been found.
