They beheaded him? That seems... archaic. I thought he would just have been shot.

Many in the Nazi party wanted the White Rose members to be hanged in public, in order to make an example. However, they were worried that this might be a further catalyst for revolt. The first three arrested (Hans, Sophie, and Christoph) were tried and executed the same day. They were beheaded at the jail where they were being held.

I didn't see that in the wikipedia article, but yeah. I don't associate the Nazi party with tolerance or humane treatment.

I'm not sure if it is in the wiki entry, but I have read a ton of stuff on the whole movement over the years, and just picked up the info various other books.
