No worries! It's not really a rule, but I prefer to have them unlocked so people can comment anonymously.
On topic, I don't get it either. Maybe if you're writing a kink fic and need reasons to slip sex into there, but otherwise? I mean, if you get into an argument with YOUR father figure, I doubt that means hatesex. It's not very realistic...
I guess it would make sense in that context...if you were writing a strictly historical fic and wanted to shoehorn sex into it? And yeah...gross. (YKINMKATO and all that, blah blah blah...)
I'm not of that viewpoint. In fact, I rather dislike that viewpoint. I'm not saying this didn't happen once or twice, or that perhaps sexual favors were used as "leverage" in negotiations...there are a lot of possibilities. But treating it all as that, rather than certain instances it would seem more appropriate, is a little off-putting.
And in the above, I'm referring to treaties and agreement singings used as people getting married/in sexual relations with each other. The invasions as rape? Yeah, dnw.
Agreed on all points. I suppose since you put it that way, in a less shiny, optimistic view than canon takes, there would probably be some exchange of sexual favors in these situations, SOMETIMES. But yes, making that ALL it is, for every nation? Just doesn't make sense.
For some reason, a popular variant is the fanon/headcanon/whatever that Europe in particular is full of debauchery and North American/Oceanic/etc. nations are OMGSHOCKED when they find out this is how they do diplomacy in Europe. Where's the logic?
Yeah, the headcanon that every time an invasion occurs or a treaty is made = sex annoys me. I mean, even in the pairings I ship, I really don't like the idea.
It puts a bad taste in my mouth. I mean, I'm sure at first it was a novel idea, and seemed cool. I think it can be done right, and have read my fair share of fic with this as the premise, but now it's kind of like a Hetalia-specific cliche and I'm tired of seeing it so much.
Well...there is one I really like. It's pretty much pure smut and is basically everything I hate about this cliche, but...I dunno, it's very emotional and I'm a sucker for that OTL
Additionally, there are other ways a country could "invade" another and NOT rape them. I mean, if you're going for a violent, this-country-is-invading-another-and-destroying-them route, you can choose anything, so it seems like choosing rape is just a way to throw sex into the equation.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Austria said "Vital Regions", and then his Queen said to please refrain from saying such lewd things- which is the joke right there, it's merely a play on words @_@ Some people either don't get that or they don't really care;;;
So yeah, I'm all for open interpretations, but in canon invasion doesn't automatically mean rape, and diplomatic relations don't automatically mean sex;;; (If anything, they usually mean friendships as far as canon goes)
In the world of shipping though, just about anything goes, even if doing those two things right off the bat are predictable if ya ask me;;

But overall, I really don't like the idea. Though if there's a well-written fanfic with that premise out there, I'd be glad to read it.

That theory lets that happen. :|
(Although when it gets into rape territory, that's where it REALLY bothers me.)
