We so have several mining issues here in the Philippines, but it's definitely not just in Palawan. There are at least two illegal mining operations in the Cordillera region. Several towns have been wrecked by it. The water supply in one town has been polluted by all the junk one company has been throwing down into the lake, which isn't actually a lake, as it was made by the chemicals from the mining operation. The government isn't actually doing much about it.
It's great that they're raising awareness about Palawan pretty early, though. I'll definitely be adding my name to that wonderful petition.
Thanks for the news.
PS: First part of that fic I promised you is up. I'm not sure it's what you expected, but... OTL

The Cordilleras as well you say? Oh, come on. As if this country needs more of that. =_= and of course, it's not the only problem we've got that the government isn't doing anything about. I wanted to mention up there that there's currently a proposal for an underwater hotel in Palawan. I'm pretty sure you know about it, seeing as how well informed you are about the Cordilleras. :D but I wasn't able to put it because I'm not completely sure about the full details (I.e. If the government actually allowed it or which company is building it) and I really REALLY want to make a petition about it (but the site requires the name of the company so OTL). oh, one can already imagine the consequences of such a monstrosity in the seas of Palawan.
Definitely! Thank God someone is actually making a difference. Oh comrade, your help is greatly appreciated :D
You're welcome :)
P.S. REALLY?? 8DDDD /runs off to read

I'm actually not entirely up to date with issues. Usually, I get too upset to watch the news. For the Cordillera mining issue, however, the sophomores of my school last year watched this documentary on it.
However, I'm pretty sure that if the government tried to touch Palawan, shit would hit the fan. It has to be one of the only islands around here that's almost perfect. They only let a certain number of tourists in, and the locals are pretty strict about taking care of their environment. It's the total opposite when it comes to a place like, say, Boracay, though: it's always crowded, causing many companies to scramble over there to build some new hotel, not to mention all the trash.
PS: I ally hope you like it OTL
