Hetalia: Nationalistic pride?

Nov 09, 2008 22:02

Ever since I've started reading Hetalia I have been generating opinions about countries in general [like Russia's scariness!]; I myself am chilean, therefore my country is not portrayed in hetalia.

I was wondering how those people who have their countries personified into characters feel. Do they feel stereotyped? Identified? Proud?

I don't know if ( Read more... )

I remember one thing my Asian Philosophy professor said that just stood out to me: "Compared to others, we as Americans are hopelessly optimistic." It wasn't until she said that that I actually realized the truth behind that. Our government does tend to work on the notion that things are only going to get better, and although they're bad now, their roots are strong (a recent example of American optimism: McCain saying how he believes that the economy is "fundamentally good"). Other nations, like China (as seen by the fundamental beliefs of Confucianism and such), have this desire to get back to the way things were in the past. Instead of time taking a positive slope, time takes a negative slope ( ... )

Well, Americans somehow always manage to pull off something to fix everything :P

Here if we're screwed, well, we stayed screwed or gets colonized [or become a common wealth :P] of a bigger nation. That's probrably why we revolt all the time for silly things XD

Well, it's really only like sticking a band-aid on it instead of fixing fundamental issues, but we're just like that. I guess whatever works? And I also think how...'bossy' America is is also fairly accurate. WE THINK WE'RE THE FREAKING WORLD'S POLICE OR SOMETHING idk. And we are embarrassing, I'll admit.

I'm also not too involved in Germany's politics, but from what I know and the time I've spent there, I think he's also pretty accurate. Perhaps it's just the vibes I get, but still.

I'd have to agree with you on that one; and the movie 'Team America; World Police' kinda instilled that on me. WE'RE ALWAYS THERE WHEN SOMEONE IS IN TROUBLE! I think it's very heroic/stupid! But I can't help but love that about my country...I wanna give America a big hug.
But at the same time, America is that annoyingly rambunctious friend at the party and everyone hates him...but deep down inside they totally want to join him on the dance floor XD
The point is, America is surprisingly accurate!
