One Coin Figures: Real vs. Fake

Jul 01, 2010 22:37

So, I'm sure many have you have gone on eBay or other sites looking for the One Coin figures, only to ask yourselves, "Are these bootlegs or legit?"

Well, I happen to have both the whole bootleg set and a few of the authentic ones, so I took pictures comparing them!

Picture heavy! All pics are resized so they can fit on a small screen. If you want the high-res pics, here are the original pics.

Note- Authentic will be on the left, Bootlegs are on the right unless stated otherwise.

So here we have America. First thing to note is are the stands. The bootleg's base is a lot bigger than the legit one. Also, the bootleg's hair is brighter. (This is the case with most of the figures)

Here is where you can see the main difference: The stands. The authentic has a little base with a metal rod sticking out of it, while the bootleg has an oversized base and a piece of plastic that is inserted into his *ahem* back.

You can really see the difference in the sizes of the bases here.

Here are just the actual figures. Main thing to note here is that the bootleg design is a bit more rough and sloppy.

The back of the America figures. It's hard to tell in this pic, but the authentic one has a slight indent in the hair to allow it to rest nicely against the metal rod. The bootleg on the other hand has hole in his *cough* back where the plastic stand is inserted.

Here are the stands by themselves. Again, note the metal rod on the authentic one, while the bootleg has the plastic L-shaped plastic rod that actually is inserted into the figure's back.

Here are the undersides of the bases. Note that on the authentic one the text is printed on, while on the bootleg it is actually in the plastic.

Now here are the fronts of the cases. The main difference is the stamp- On the legit one, there is that blue postal stamp you see on letters, while it's absent from the bootleg.
(Legit picture taken from HLJ)

Here are the individual boxes. The main difference from the front is the color; the bootleg is somewhat faded. This applies to the whole box.

Here are the tops of the individual boxes. On the legit one, it has that strip you pull off and then the tab thing under it, while on the bootleg it's just the tab. Plus, everything is flipped around on the bootleg.

Note- These are BOTH bootlegs.
Now here's the other major sign of a bootleg when buying a set: Romano and Germany. Notice something off? Yep, their bodies are switched. Romano's head is on Germany's body and vice versa. However, since their heads are removable you can just switch them.

Now for a few quick comparisons of other characters!

Here's China! Again, the legit one is on the left while the bootleg is on the right.
Note how the bootleg!China has orange hair. As you can see, it's supposed to be brown.

France! The difference in the shade of skin is pretty obvious here.

Italy! Note the flag- it is very flimsy on the bootleg.

And here is a full set of bootlegs.

So yeah! I hope this helps out. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Apparently, many cons have a No-Bootleg policy, so if you see a booth selling them, you should inform the staff about it. Thank you diligentsesame for pointing this out!
