Kiku felt the prickling of blood draining from his face. Of all the places, why there? It was all too clear why the other passengers glared daggers at him - it was the hatred that still lingered from World War II. Yao glanced at him; he closed his eyes, refusing to meet the distressed brown ones looking in his direction. Behind his eyelids, the memory of his katana buried deep in Yao’s back played against his will. Hours passed while the two wandered about the area, lost in the mists of their own thoughts - if they were thinking at all. They ignored the calls of their tour guide, who was satisfied enough that they’d already paid, and didn’t care whether or not they made it back. As night fell and the crowd dissipated, the guards strode over to Yao, asking them to leave at the park’s closing. The Chinese man glanced over at Kiku, kneeling quietly in the grass, then turned back.
“We’ll be staying a while longer. I trust this will not be a problem, and if it is, you can contact Zhong Nan Hai about it.” The guardsmen shivered visibly at the steely glare; the authority with which the words were spoken convinced both that this was not a man to be messed with, regardless of how feminine he seemed. They ambled off, grumbling to each other about government nepotism
