They meet again in Paris with other nations to discuss the Marshall Plan, and for a moment Arthur doesn’t recognize the man sitting across the table from him. He frowns and tries to place the wavy blond hair that ends just above his ears; it looks wrong, doesn’t look right. He thinks it might be a nation’s boss

Thank you for sharing, this was absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking. I love how you tied together the motifs from beginning to end, you are truly gifted at writing. *goes back to re-read*

I actually had a lot of fun with this piece, even though it was hard to write. There are so many layers of meaning, and you have to get them just right.

.........I.
I-I wish I had words to express how much I adored this. It's so...so...so..perfect.
I am truly sorry for such a lame comment. orz I really can't think of anything else to say right now, except maybe for a "thank you so much for writing this" and a "this was simply and utterly brilliant".
Really, Author!anon. I'm obviously not the requester, but Thank you so much.♥

Thank you very much for reading and commenting. I'm happy that you enjoyed it, even if I'm not sure myself if I can call my own writing perfect - I tend to think my writing's simply "better than the draft before." If I start thinking I'm perfect, I can't grow and develop.

Oh- okay. French!anon here very nearly cried, just so you know. And that hadn't happened for years. And she usually would write a very long-winded review for that kind of work, but the kinkmeme is just not the time and place for that (plus she's studying like crazy right now, and has barely the energy to read, let alone type).
And ouch, do Vichy and the épurations sting >__> well, it depends on whether or not people have way too much empathy, like this anon does, but still.
The characters are... just... I don't know. Lifeless France broke my heart, and then England being so confused and jealous took care of the remaining fragments.
I just love you, anon. I do.
... I also maybe sort of have an inkling as to who you might be~ though I could be horribly wrong too.

Haha, well, I might out myself for this. We'll see - I've got some other projects I'm working on right now, so it might take a while.
From what I read of the épuration, it sounded a lot like our McCarthy witch-hunts here in the United States. With many innocents hurt along with many people who rightfully deserved it. Paranoia does that sometimes, and I think the only thing we can do is remember it.
