Russia/Canada: Ivan puts Matthew through mock-execution.
ex: Forces him to dig his own grave before "shooting him", puts him in coffin or ties him up and starts to bury him alive- the more terrifying, the better.
Bonus points outside forces (AU! political circumstances?) forcing Ivan to break Matthew down in such a way, and for Ivan comforting Matthew after wards.
Either that, or passive!aggressive rebellious Canada is the main reason that sadistic!Ivan does this.
