Since there are fifteen posts left on Part III, and I don't want to collapse commenting any more than I have, I've decided to finish the fill for this over here. I hope that's all right with you, mods.

“Follow the path, and you’ll find me. I’ll see you in three days.”
And before Arthur can say another word, those great wings flap and close around their master. Magic swirls around Yue, so bright and powerful that Arthur winces and lifts a hand; when he lowers it, he’s gone, and the path is clear.
Arthur stares at where the creature once stood. He feels numb. His heart thrums through his body.
Three days.
In three days, I am going to die.
Arthur gets out three weak chuckles before something hits the back of his head and makes him yelp. He feels knuckles and realizes it must have been Kiku’s fist.
“OW! What the bloody hell were you thinking -”
“What were you thinking, Arthur!?” Kiku’s panting, face red with anger and eyes narrowed. “I told you not to do that! I told you not to take this challenge, and now…now you’re going…” Kiku bows his head, hides his eyes behind black bangs. “I’m going to lose you. Like I lost Heracles. I…why must I lose everyone I

“See what?”
Kiku takes a step forward, stares, shakes his head. “It’s…it’s gone now,” he murmurs. He turns to Ariel. “Why can’t Arthur see it?”
“I’m not sure,” Ariel answers. “I don’t know if Arthur holds the same power over dreams that you do.”
“But that’s absurd. He got that scabbard in a dream.”
“You know, it’s quite irritating when you guys talk as if I’m not here -”
Arthur’s interrupted by a shrill, piercing scream; it makes him bristle, makes his muscles tense. He is three steps behind Kiku as they run in the direction, feet pounding on the dirt of the path.
That voice sounded female. Dear God, don’t let this be another Heracles -
And then they see the woman in the path, struggling against something Arthur can’t see. She turns her eyes to them, and for a moment her brown eyes meet Arthur’s own.
In some trick of the light, Arthur thinks he sees something that is not fear; a knowing glint, a simple smirk.
“Help me! Please, help -” She’s cut off, her mouth gaping as she begins to choke

Arthur blinks, feels his face fall a little. “But you look so much like…”
Eriol blinks at Arthur, looking confused. “Hm?”
“…It’s nothing.” He died, Arthur. He left a long time ago and never came back. Arthur lifts his head and meets Eriol’s gaze. “Can you tell us what lies at the end of this path

“Wish I could help,” he hears Arthur grumble. Eriol cuts his eyes over to Arthur, who cuts into his venison with a vengeance.
“Something wrong, Sir Kirkland?”
“I’m bloody useless, that’s what,” Arthur grumbles at his plate. He blinks, seems to realize what he said, and blushes a little. “…Pardon my language,” he says, lowering his eyes.
“Why do you think that?” Kaho sounds curious, turning to Arthur as his blush deepens.
“I’m sorry, I - I just don’t have a weapon,” Arthur murmurs. “I mean, I look like I should, because I have this scabbard, but I don’t

When Arthur wakes the next morning, sunlight shines through his window, golden and warm and strong.
Arthur blinks, stretches, and sighs, sitting up and running a hand through his hair. He thinks he must have been tired, to have fallen asleep with his clothes on. He usually feels gross after sleeping in his clothes, but today he feels refreshed and - not happy, perhaps, but calmer. Content.
It’s Avalon, he thinks, swinging his legs over the side of the bed and looking out the window. It’s because this place is a part of me.
This place is different from Midsummer’s Forest. Midsummer’s Forest spoke of mischief and something dreamlike. Avalon feels more solid to Arthur, tangible and strong.
And there’s trouble here that I cannot see. His face falls a little as he thinks of the invisible creatures - the things that exist just beyond his sight. How is it that I can’t see trouble in a realm that I master?Kiku is somewhere out on those lands; Ariel is with him to help if the air of this land begins to overwhelm him. And Arthur is

He thinks that her smile must be suggestive - or is trying to be, at any rate. But all Arthur sees is that unreachable thing underneath her eyes, a knowledge that he can’t reach.
“I don’t presume you know, Milady?” he murmurs back, his lips perking up in a slight smile, accepting her challenge.
“I might.”
“I’d love to hear your theories.”
Her fingers ghost down his neck, and he shivers as her hands land on his shoulder. “I might tell you - for a price.”
Ah. Ah. So that’s what Kaho’s getting at. He feels his muscles tense at what she implies, but forces himself calm. He can resist this. It’ll be staying polite that will be hard

“Sir Kirkland?”
Arthur jolts back to himself, blinking. “I - I’m sorry,” he murmurs, lowering his eyes. “I must be a bit tired.”
“Certainly understandable,” says Eriol. “Aside from your trouble with the swords, though, did you find anything else interesting today?”
Arthur stiffens and realizes something.
This is a part of Gawain’s story. This is the game with the Green Knight - presenting what he gains at the end of the day to his host.
Arthur kissed Eriol’s wife - on the cheek, granted, but he still did it and he thinks that might count. Except he wishes it wouldn’t because Eriol is sitting there with a small, expectant smile on his face and -
I have to take this carefully.Arthur bends his head and presses a kiss to Eriol’s cheek, chaste and brief. Eriol lifts fingers to his cheek, caressing the brush of lips there. “Well, that’s an interesting find,” Eriol says, laughing a bit. “May I ask where in my castle you found such a jewel of a gift

Kiku lifts an eyebrow at him.
“Yes, it sounds crazy, I know it does,” Arthur says. “I - I don’t even know what she’s trying to do. She might be trying to help me, I think.”
Kiku blinks, curious. “What makes you say that?”
“It’s the way she looks at me sometimes - it’s like she knows something and isn’t telling me, and it’s frustrating“Don’t think too hard on it,” Kiku says, standing and readjusting his quiver on his shoulder. “I think that I’ll go back to my room and wait for dinner

“If you say so, Kiku,” says Eriol, quiet and calm.
“…We need to keep moving. We don’t know where this thing is, and it could be moving farther away as we -”
“Ah!”
Kiku hears a rustle of leaves, but by the time he turns around Eriol is gone, his bow and arrow littering the forest floor.
“Hiirazigawa-dono?” Kiku asks, and feels goosebumps flush over his skin when no one answers him.
Something rustles in the bushes, and before Kiku has time to wonder what it is, something slimy and dark and cold wraps around his wrist and pulls.
“Gah -!”
Kiku pulls back with his arm, the muscles flexing to try and free himself. He feels something slither up his sleeve; he feels filthy and dirty as he narrows his eyes and concentrates, trying to will the thing into his vision -

“My Lord!”
Eriol lifts his head and smiles as his fiancée, weak but pleased. “Kaho,” he murmurs, lifting a hand to take hers as she approaches.
“My Lord, what happened?” Kaho looks concerned as she relieves Kiku of his burden and takes Eriol’s arm over her own shoulder.
“I…just got a bit careless,” Eriol says, moving his hand to her face and brushing his fingers along her cheek. “It’s not serious, anyway. So don’t worry so much, please.”
“Don’t worry? My Lord, your ankle is sprained! We need to get that bound right away….”
Kiku follows them into the house, their banter fading in the face of his own worry.

“Perhaps, Milord,” Arthur says, but he doesn’t look at Eriol.
“I’m sorry I won’t be able to join you for lunch today, gentlemen, but perhaps I’ll be down at dinner.”
“We’ll count on it, then,” Arthur says. He nods to Eriol, then to Kiku. “Come on. Let’s leave them alone.”
Kiku nods and bows to Eriol before following Arthur out the door. He catches one last glimpse of Eriol’s face and feels a familiar shudder tingle through his skin.
Because Eriol’s eyes are kind and knowing, and Kiku thinks that maybe he does understand what Arthur means now. ___
“So that’s how it happened?”
“In brief, yes.”
Arthur and Kiku sit on the front steps of Eriol’s castle. They feel Ariel swirl around them, fresh and cool in the warm air.
“I - I’m losing it,” Kiku says, curling towards his stomach as his arms come up to cover his face. “I’m losing my sight. Not even this eye is helping anymore, and people are dying because I -”
“Kiku.”
“It’s my fault.” Just like last time, Kiku thinks. Just like what I did to Heracles
