A toast to the bride and groom! anonymous April 3 2009, 23:44:07 UTC
Not so much a kink as a prompt of sorts:

Austria and Hungary get married!

I want the full-blown wedding ceremony, complete with reception and wedding toasts from fellow nation-tans.

Make it funny and cracked up anon, I've been having a rough couple of days and need the laugh.

And look! Even recaptcha wants it: Married 740

A quick note: Writer!anon is unfortunately hopeless when it comes to titles, so OP is urged to consider the dictionary meaning of 'splendid celebration with ceremony and fuss' for this one, instead of Edward Elgar's marches. Given Roderich's musical preferences, a military march would hardly be appropriate for the occasion.

Also, for historical notes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austro-Hungarian_Compromise_of_1867

Writer!anon really hopes this is what you were looking for.

The devil is in the details, Roderich thought, slowly making his way down the wide isle.

It had been an exhausting week and the preparations had deprived both himself and Elizabeth of a good few hours of sleep. Presumably there were people somewhere getting paid to make the necessary arrangements, but Roderich's nagging feeling that something absolutely had to go wrong had driven him to try and oversee as much of the entire affair as his sanity allowed ( ... )

Roderich was not superstitious by nature, but he believed that the secret to things going well was people not noticing they are going well. The minute someone did, something was bound to go terribly, embarrassingly wrong.

The toasts had gone well, in that nothing happened that they hadn't carefully prepared for. They'd stood side by side, smiling and nodding at each of their guests. They did the same through Ludwig's short congratulation, Arthur's carefully memorized discourse and Francis' winks and double entendres.

The reception was also going surprisingly well. No one, for example, had noticed that Gilbert hadn't shown up, and Roderich fervently hoped things would stay that way. He had been invited, but mostly because everyone else had been, too. Roderich and he were not on particularly good terms at the moment and he did not enjoy the prospect of being reminded that he had Gilbert to thank for his current political situation. And the wedding, a treacherous thought supplied ( ... )

Gilbert's parting words had nearly given Roderich a panic attack. He'd tried to think of one hundred things that could go wrong and how to fix them, but he was beginning to feel all those hours of sleeplessness, so he hastily decided to deal with whatever disaster was forthcoming on the spot.

When the first round of fireworks exploded over the gardens around midnight (fireworks he was certain he had not ordered), he was prepared to admit, with considerable relief, that it could have been a lot worse. When Elizabeth took his arm and smiled brightly under the lights, he told himself that maybe Gilbert wasn't, on a good day and from a favorable angle, all bad ( ... )
