Spain, who had been beaming hopefully a moment ago, suddenly looked crestfallen instead. "Why not?" he demanded, and God, Romano fucking hated it when he whined. Well, not whined exactly, but when he used that hurt tone of voice and widened his expressive eyes so that he looked like a kicked puppy or something.
It made him so damn angry, but not as much as his own heart skipping a beat just a moment earlier, when Spain asked him if maybe they couldn't be kind of a couple, did. Because that short moment of pure joy and relief and hope made him downright furious. Stupid fucking Spain for making him feel like that, and for being the reason to why he couldn't keep feeling like that, and for not even getting why he couldn't keep feeling like that. Why it couldn't possibly work.
"Because you're a damn cheater," he spat, crossing his arms over his chest. Spain winced, and yes, that was definitely guilt, but he was still going to try to talk him over, wasn't he?

When he finally managed to get free, he had no idea where Romano was, and he was rather afraid that he'd left to go home and sulk. After all, even though he'd agreed to having an open relationship, he was probably still feeling a bit jealous about it, and Romano could be very conservative when he wanted to. I knew this was sort of a weird request and I would have been happy with any fill, but this one also promises to be a very good fill so I'm like, more than happy, ecstatic! Oh, and OP, I am so delighted that you are happy with what I've done so far! I found the prompt simply brilliant, and knew that I was going to have to write something for it the moment I saw it. And yes, I kind of figured that France would be the first one to jump Romano's bones at the first given opportunity, considering what we see of his interactions with Romano/Spain in canon.

Sadly, Spain never got to find out that Romano woke up France by punching him hard in the stomach and screeching at him to let go of him, damnit, he was going home to sleep on sheets that weren't dodgy-smelling and made of silk, without some pervert drooling on his shoulder. It would probably have made him feel a bit better about the whole thing.
