AmericaxEngland-Exchange Student anonymous August 2 2012, 06:48:00 UTC
Gakuen universe where England is the new British exchange student who is having trouble settling in and adjusting to the American school system in terms of friends and homesickness. He actually gets physically sick with homesickness and struggles to belong.
Bonus1- Either it is a boarding school and he shares a room with America or he is billeted with America's family.
Bonus2-America finds out about the homesickness because he can hear Arthur crying at night.
Bonus3- They end up in a relationship.
I would also appreciate if you made England a goody-two shoes student (ie straight A's and well behaved).

Question for OP anonymous August 2 2012, 18:27:20 UTC
First of all I love the idea of this fic, and I have some ideas swimming around in my head for it.
THough I have a couple questions 1. Would OP mind me putting hem in college? 2. Does OP mind if I write the story form Arthur's P.O.V? I just feel I could write the story better if I could have it told from Arthur's mind.

Op thinks college would be perfect! Arthur POV is great as well. Thank you so much!!!

I am sorry to say, but the prologue is not beta'd my beta is out and I promise the first chapter will be reviewed by her. I did my best, but it is hard to catch mistakes. Sorry OP, but I hope you like it so far. The benefits of the exchange student program were to great to pass up. I had royally screwed up my high school years due to my rebellious actions, and thoughts that this became my only chance. I nearly did not pass England’s equivalent of High school ( ... )

OP is astounded by your brilliance and speed! I absolutely adore how you're already introducing the differences in settings. Amazing job so far and so excited for the next part. XD

Brits don't use euros, jsyk. Arthur would convert to pounds.

I keep forgetting that. Sorry I'll fix that for future stuffs. I always get mixed up with the money because on my trip to a few European countries I had my money exchanged to Euros while in London and never had to deal with pounds.

This is looking great so far! I agree with anon above, we don't use pounds, though we do accept Euros as a usable currency. I can see Alfred, in the future, being all confused with our british 'slang'. That'd be funny. ^^

This is really good, I am intrigued. The only thing might be that we use pounds not Euro's in England, but considering this is unbetaed everything else seems perfectly good.

I am so sorry for taking so long to update my computer broke plus I was moving so I could start my second year fall semester at University. I promise chapters will be longer and hopefully be updated more regularly.
Also sorry I used the wrong money system, I converted my dollars to Euros when in England so I kind of let it slip my mind that they really use pounds.

Chapter 1 “A Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
-ConfuciusI stared up at the large building that I would call home for the next few years of my life. It was a large house that was set off from the main campus. It was an old house that had been converted into the boys’ dormitory for the school. I will say it reminded me slightly of home though. No matter how much it seemed the Americans claimed to be different from the English after their revolution they sure liked to copy us, and keep intrigued with our monarchy ( ... )

The man practically did a dance as if he were excited to hear me speak. I found it a tad amusing, but I refused to let him know that he seemed to already have a too large ego ( ... )

Getting back to the dorm I was relieved to find that climbing the steps was much easier without my luggage, but I was still slightly winded once I reached the top. I truthfully needed to get into shape ( ... )

The college Arthur is attending is made up, as I did not wish to assume what goes on at a real NC school. I sadly had to move before college so I did not get to go to a school in NC.

The flip flops bit. I took it from a friend/teacher I have. He is from England and has live all over the country, but he is also older. He said that it was odd hearing what he called thongs (that shocked me, as I only think of that as a form of underwear) “flip flops.” So I am going by him.

Also will be using a bit of the slang he uses in the story, but if any one knows of a good list of current English slang I could use as a reference I’d really appreciate it. I don't trust just googling it.

Really loving this fill so far and the pov makes it differnt to the other fills. But to be honest the flop flop thing confused me with how Arthur did not know what a flip flop is. Living in England myself I can say we certainly call them flip flops, a thong is an underwear. But maybe calling them thongs is a regional thing from a differnt county or something older people say.

As for the slang, it depends on what you want to use, we have differnt slang for differnt areas and sadly the only slang I know are some pet names and chav.

But if you want something that Americans tend to get wrong the two fingered peace sign Americans do where you have the palm facing you is actually reveresed in England. The way you do it is rude in England and basically means 'fuck you/off'. Turn the hand around so the palm is facing outwards and you get the peace sign we use here.

I am kind of seeing that. I just picked up on the whole flip flop thing recently due to actually he's my guitar teacher. He said he spent most of his life growing up in New Castle and Yorkshire. So it may be a regional thing or what not. But, it is still something to point out. This fic is set in the early 2000's so things may have changed since then.

I will so have to use that gesture in the story at some point! I know of a few Italian ones, but never heard of that one which hearing about it makes me laugh.
