USUK. Two fingered salute anonymous November 8 2011, 12:47:08 UTC
In America if you hold up your pointer and middle finger in a V it means things like peace/victory/that your badass and other stuff right? The sign can be done with your palm inwards and facing outwards.
In England if you do that sign with your palm facing towards you so that the back of your hand is facing the other person its offensive. Basically telling them to F- off.

Americans don’t tend to know this.
America is seen as generally clueless about other countries.
America gives England the two fingered salute offensive way to Brits (palm facing him and back of the hand facing England) and has no idea why England is suddenly angry when he did a victory/peace sign.

Bonus: France laughs his arse off.
As this gesture was first used (allegedly) by British bowmen at the French bowmen who had threatened to cut off the first two fingers, those that hold the arrow in place, of the British bowmen if captured. After the battles, the British archers flashed their first two fingers to show that they were still intact.

OP here.
I found this picture completely by accident when browsing for England images. Makes it clearer what the 'offensive' way is. And relates to the bonus info I gave about France.

May clear up any confusion over my terrible wording. It confuses me when I read over it.
