Fem!Romano [whatever you want to name her is fine]'s mother is emotionally abusive - she calls Fem!R fat and ugly and stupid but loves Romano's little sister, Fem!Italy. All this emotional abuse makes fem!Romano angry, cynical and she finds it hard to hold any attachment to anyone because her mother always tells her how no one would ever love a girl like her. She goes to university and gets away from her parents and befriends Fem!Japan and Fem!Canada. Enter Spain, a boy who falls for Fem!Romano. She struggles to admit that she loves him back and when she does, her family doesn't approve so she elopes with Spain

Lovina had almost forgotten how much she hates the place’s interior design. The walls are all painted a red that borders on maroon, making everything feel claustrophobic, borderline creepy. The furniture’s gleaming wood and leather, the TV a wide panel of black on the wall. Lovina wonders what might pop up if she turns it on, and weighs the possibility of it being hardcore porn against the immense awkwardness of being alone in a silent home

Romolo is trimmed and polished as always, the stubble on his chin cut to a fashionable length and sleeves fastened with cufflinks that glint in the light. His hair is the exact same shade of brown that it was over fifteen years ago, and still will be the day he dies.
Femke looks too, her eyes hardening. By the time he’s all the way down, his tie is straight and he’s shrugging on a jacket, ignoring all the daggers being thrown his way, the sudden silence that has descended.
“Where are you going, all dolled up like that?” there’s an edge to Femke’s voice that Lovina quite likes. She’s obviously had to deal with his as much of his asshattery as his granddaughter. “We were going to discuss your progress, right after I made us some coffee.”
He flashes an infuriatingly carefree grin. “Sorry, signora, I have a date! Didn’t I tell you? Could have sworn I did. I do have to go, though, don’t you understand?”

Anyway, she’s kind of surprised that Romolo still remembers Heracles’ name, where he lives. She’s learned not to expect too much out of her grandfather, who looks barely forty but for the surgery-tamed lines on his face, who has probably fathered half a city by now. At least the sentiment is mutual: he never expects Lovina to explain a thing, just obliges her to the best of his ability, and lets her eat all his expensive imported cookies when she’s particularly distressed.
“He’s getting married.” To my best friend who I introduced him to, who he got pregnant, she reminds herself a little bitterly, lips twisting with the mere thought of Kiku already trapped in a potentially unhappy marriage, the lifelong drudgery of childrearing. She was always the sensible one, too.
Romolo just shakes his head, chuckling under his breath. His unspoken words: poor kid. Doesn’t even know what he’s getting into. Which is right, but at the very least Heracles is being honorable, respectable. No man who mails his granddaughter’s boyfriends copies of his

I'm really liking the way you write Lovina. She's sharp, headstrong, and manipulative without being hurtful. The way she knows how to get what she wants from her grandfather speaks more to how he's the kind of guy you wouldn't feel exactly wrong about guilt-tripping, and it doesn't seem to cast Lovina in a bad light. She's not really a greedy person, from the looks of it. That came through quite nicely in what you've written.
Out of curiosity, could you elaborate a bit on the relationship between Lovina and Heracles? I get that they're cousins, but I was a bit confused as to how Maria Vargas is related to the two of them, and what their childhood was like. (My headcanon states that these two must be related through the Roman Empire, so I'm quick to latch on to fanworks that show that in any way :) )
i'm not sure how we'll i'll put it in my actual fic, so basically: lovina and heracles are half-siblings, their father is romolo's son. :) everything else, i'll take care of!
