UK/various Mainly USUK - suddently attractive anonymous May 12 2011, 17:55:28 UTC
England is not attractive. Not as flashy as France nor as gorgeous as America. So he has had difficulties to find a partner. But thanks to their 'History' or however else he gets to date America who is a wonderful sweet boyfriend.
But just now he begins to recieve the attention he never got before. France suddently woos around him. Spain is trying to use DAT ASS on him, etc.
Though he's incredibly happy with America he cannot help but to feel flushed.

Bonus1: He cheats on America,
Bonus2: He's dead drunk while doing so

England’s always known that he is no great beauty. He doesn’t have France’s wavy golden locks - instead he has a thatch of blond mess like a mess of straw. He doesn’t have Spain’s caramel skin or Italy’s style; his body is thin and scrawny, and his eyebrows dominate his face ( ... )

Drinking is pleasant now, not teary affairs. He doesn’t need to weep about the Revolution because what he’d lost then has come back to him, and even when America’s not there he finds himself not lonely ( ... )

Thank you so much for the comment! :) It made me feel like smiling the whole day. I mean it was the first you know?

I'm afraid I don't really see this having a completely happy USUK ending. But I could try giving Al a happy ending....

I'm not even sure what I should be feeling this. On one hand my heart breaks for England because he was finally happy and with America too. On the other hand, I want to say that he brought it onto himself for cheating(?) on America. Yet throughout all this, I can't completely blame him for this, for being happy that other people are attracted to him.

Now I really wish we got to see what America's pov was throughout all of this. Well, anyway, this really was a lovely fill author-anon.

Hahahah your comment made me grin. I tried to shoot for that, to not make it a one-sided thing. I like to keep things 'balanced' when I write - that is, if someone does something wrong, he's not some psycho evil villain and there's something redeeming ; and my favorites have bad traits too. Well, I try.

Thank you for the comment and I hadn't thought about a sequel but I might try a oneshot from America's POV for you guys.

Oh. ;___;

The last part was my favorite part and the one that got to me. It really reminded me of the myth Narcissus even though they're not really the same.

I second the wanting to see America's pov. I mean, to see other people finding your boyfriend is attractive is one thing. It's another thing for your boyfriend to act on it. And espesically since it seems that England doesn't feel gulity while he was cheating (or maybe I'm just seeing it differently)

I'm kind of really fascinated by this comment - what about this reminds you of Narcissus? Now I'm all curious.

And seconded request heeded - I'll try to post an America-POV ficlet thing up in a while. I'd deliberately tried to keep it from going into his head (like I didn't write his note) because it's so hard for me to do justice to the heartbreak he must have felt. Similarly I tried to keep England's exact thoughts vague so I could leave it up to the readers.

But personally, I had this image of him being so drunk he wasn't sure what he was doing (which btw ISN'T a defense for his behavior - he should have known not to go drinking) and he was still too drunk to fully realize it in the morning - if the delivery man hadn't come and he'd been left to fully wake up, he'd have eventually freaked out, kicked the BFT out and then began kicking himself. He would have felt bad, but now he feels really really bad.

Um... ick. If England was too drunk to know what he was doing, he couldn't consent; that's not cheating, it's rape. Saying that he should have known better is victim-blaming at its finest, and if that's America's thought process, I'm right out of his corner.

I read the fic originally as England getting drunk knowing what was going to happen and being on board with it (although I figured what he did would catch up with him later, hence why he needed to get drunk in the first place). Knowing your intent, it reads as England being taken advantage of and being punished for it, which puts quite a damper on my enjoyment.

If England was too drunk to know what he was doing it's dub-con in the best case and outright rape in the worst. And then this story should have a warning.

Perhaps America didn't know it wasn't consensual? The question is how the hell did America find out so fast? Did another nation see what was happening and just assume England wasn't that drunk and then just called America saying "Dude, you're boyfriend's having an orgy. Thought you should know"?

Just saying. America might not have the full story yet either. He doesn't seem the type to think things through at times.

I also wondered how he found out so fast; it left me pretty curious, honestly. Then again, I bet the nations have a freakishly fast gossip network now that they have cell phones and computers.

Point. I guess if someone, say, snapped off a cellphone picture of England getting hot and heavy with the Bad Friends and sent it off, America could have reacted to it without knowing the context it was taken in.

I think this is why I had to come back and reread this. It's a very well written fill. England probably does have some level of alcoholism and should quit but that he hasn't quit yet isn't a crime and he doesn't deserve to be raped for it. If America were dumping England because he couldn't handle the alcoholism, I'd feel that no-outright-villain-balance but dumping England because he was raped by colleagues is sad. Saying England deserves it is horrifying.

So... yeah. I'll be over in my happy corner where later America hears France bragging about getting England so drunk he didn't which way was up, realizing what happened, and actually talking to England about it. There are so many good things about this fill, it's a shame the victim blaming is so hard to overlook.
