The Ugly Side of Piracy

The reason why England forgets who Canada is so often is because of the memory loss brought on by tertiary stage syphilis.
I want to see hurt!Canada (because it's been more recently that England's been progressing into the tertiary stage), and oblivious!England with his brain slowly turning to swiss cheese (it can progress to forgetting others of his "children", or regressing in time to before the Entente and picking fights with France, or developing bipolar or schizophrenic personality).
It's only when it gets into other systems (Blindness, deafness, difficulty coordinating muscle movements, or even paralysis) that another Nation realises that something's actually wrong with him. Break my heart, anons.
Bonus: the Nation who realises what's really going on is Canada.
Bonus2: England has a moment of lucidity where he knows something is wrong with him, but when he tries to tell others they wave him off (France: "And we did not already know this?" America: "You're not sick just cause you're a kinky old man!" etc

New York minute: n. The smallest measurable amount of time in the universe. Approximately equal to the time between a traffic light turning green in New York City and the cab driver behind you honking his horn.A New York minute is, debatably, less than a Toronto minute. A Toronto minute is more or less the same as a London minute, give or take a couple Paris seconds

In Which Canada is Viciously Murdered and Pines for America's Eighty-fourth Phone Call[1a/?]

April 24, 2010 5:34 am - Toronto
The phone rang.
Most significant events began with a phone ringing. Canada, however, expecting the eighty-fourth call of the year from America, neglected to realize this fact.
“Hey, the sound outside your window is an airplane flying over the house, no it isn’t a Transformer, no I can’t come on down right now because I’m asleep, next time try Googling the timezones before you call, yes I know you’re sorry, I’m sorry that you’re sorry,” Canada rattled off without waiting for the other end to speak. He was about to put the phone down when a very distinct English accent sounded from the speaker.
“…I’m sorry?”
He paled. And then wished the stereotypes were real and that he really did live in an igloo, because otherwise this was just-
“Shit,” he said to the speaker. “I mean. Sorry. I’m really, really sorry-I-you know, sometimes Al calls and-sometimes he gets scared of the weirdest-that, this is the eighty-fourth time, I’m used to just …yeah. Um. D-did you need something

Oh my gods, so happy to see this. And already the angst is eating my soul. I love the way your writting is kinda... i dunno, nonscensical? and flowing. It's just so fitting.
I love your time descriptions in the first bit. They broke my brain rather alot, but I loved them to bits.
And Canada's default answering the phone thing... Was epic, epic win of previously unimagined proportions. Just, YES. 84 times, eh? It's kinda sad that he's keeping count. Oh, Mattie...
And... Canada felt like falling. BRB, repairing my heart and hugging my country. T^T I want so much to pop in there and tell him what's going on. Naaaar. The limits of my non-metaphysical existance! I curse them!
Not!Op forgives you for lateness, because this is amazing and more likely than not going to kill my soul. *waits eagerly*
Did I mention I love the way you write? Cuz I really, really do. <3 Why can't I seem to make those little hearts? *html fail*
OP loves you so much

Oh. Oh. Oh. Good lord, anon, you're breaking my heart already. I loved what you did with time in the beginning. I felt confused and disjointed, but it felt like I was losing something, losing time, like Arthur was. (And the detail of the "autistic kitten" sound... ;; good lord.)
“I apologize for, ah, interrupting anything, but this past week I’ve been finding this number nearly everywhere. In my address book, on my refrigerator, on my emergency contact list…usually with a number of other numbers, but, well, those are familiar nations. Unfortunately. It’s just getting exceedingly strange, you see.”
Because he tries to be such a gentleman. Oh, Arthur. You poor, poor baby. I love that he's completely forgotten even who Matt's number belongs to, not just mistaking Matt for Alfred. It's a pleasant surprise! (As much as I really hate to use the word pleasant with a heartbreaking prompt like this)
“Y-yeah, I see.” He didn’t. Something foreign was climbing up his stomach.Mattie~ D: I love the detail. I love your writing style in general.

this is an utterly beautiful start, anon. I feel myself being swept off my feet, and it started with the very first few lines, spiralling down and feeling my heart constrict in my chest at the end of the part.
beautiful. the initial mention about seconds ticking by, of how different they all act in regards to their own minutes, it fits them perfectly, and fits england equally perfectly.
and the phone call. oh, canada. completely fitting with the whole brotherly relationship canada has with america, and canada's sudden reaction when england calls him, and... oh, anon. this is SO great.
painful start to such a heart-breaking, painful prompt, but just beautiful. your style of writing was fluid and distinctive, and i enjoyed reading this a lot.
I'd love to see more of this, please :) even though i know i'm putting myself up to feel even more pain, heh *hugs* thanks for writing this prompt. i can't wait to see how you'll continue.

I bookmarked this request a few days after it was posted (the England/Canada shipper inside me NEEDED to see this filled) and checked it every single day... and the one day I DON'T check it it starts to get filled ;AAA;
And let me tell you right now, it was definitely worth the wait. <333 What you have so far is amazing - I can't even organize my thoughts clearly I'm so happy right now ;w;

Years from now, when the Great Fog in London had cleared, Canada would only remember that this day was when England first forgot him. Throughout the years, he would keep a record, almost mechanically, of England’s aberrations-forgot he didn’t own any Liverpool jerseys today, forgot 1603 today, forgot the Queen today-in a small notebook, medical and dead on his desk

“Thank you, Thomas. Today’s high is 13 degrees Celsius and the low is 7 degrees-don’t forget the overcoat today! Mostly cloudy with light showers in the morning and afternoon, with a mild fog of a visibility of 9 kilometers throughout the day… the fog doesn’t seem to be letting up anytime soon in the next weeks, so brace yourselves. Back to you, Thomas…”
Well, that wasn’t a big deal, wasn’t it? He could still drive perfectly well in this weather. Hell, he liked this weather. It was his. So the fog could even be a bit cute, maybe

Can't-make-hearts!anon still can't make hearts. OTL So much fail. Anyway.
My heart breaks for Canada again. That England would forget again so quickly, and the mention of the journal... And I see your pathetic fallacy (or sympathetic environment, to be more modern) with the Great Fog. *soul flies away* Oh, England... T^T
klasdfkjfsdj ♥♥♥♥♥~! I was beginning to think I wasn't going to see another update on this! Glad to know I'm not forgotten!
My heart. It is broked. D: Poor Canada! Mattie, you're not a coward at all! The poor baby, getting forgotten again so quickly. (And that was a really nice touch, authornon, with Canada's name fading out at the end.)
And England. Oh, honey. I requested oblivious!England, and boy is it being delivered. The poor dear. ;^; He has absolutely no idea what's going on. Sweetheart, if you only knew...
I can't wait to see where this goes from here, anon! I know it's going to be a bumpy and heartbreaking ride! Good luck with the rest of your term, dear. ♥
