[Part 7] Italy and Austria Bond Through Music anonymous December 11 2009, 02:27:27 UTC
Original Request: http://hetalia-kink.livejournal.com/10960.html?thread=22293200#t22293200

Request: Austria/N. Italy

Prompt is music. Kink is Italy comforting Austria because Austria feels guilty for mistreating Italy when he was younger, but Italy's okay now. Happy ending necessary. Other than that, do what you want.Note: OP I am a bit sorry for this as it honestly does not have much connection to the original prompt other then it has both Austria and Italy in it and there is music in it. It was inspired by your prompt but then sort of meandered off in its own direction as I was writing it. I thought about just posting this in the "Anything Goes" Prompt but I feel your prompt deserves a fill because it was awesome and Austria/Italy prompts are so rare and it did inspire this fic. I hope you can enjoy it as it is even if it isn't exactly what you asked for ( ... )

Fermata (1/1) -- Part A anonymous December 11 2009, 02:29:10 UTC
Italy wandered slowly through the halls of Austria's house. He wasn't heading anywhere particular and he wasn't in any hurry to get there he just needed to get away from the group in the sitting room. It wasn't that the conversation was bad it was just that Austria had disappeared an hour earlier and Prussia was starting to get bored which meant that he would begin needling Hungary soon because she was the only one present besides his brother who never gave into Prussia's jabs. Italy couldn't see this turning of Prussia's attention to Hungary ending well for the nation. It never did. So he'd escaped as quickly as he could, sharing a knowing smile with Germany as he made his excuses with a soft touch on the other nation's shoulder ( ... )

Fermata (1/1) -- Part B anonymous December 11 2009, 02:30:19 UTC
The music grew louder as he approached the door to the music room his mind still on the apparition of memory he'd just run into. He paused in the half open door way and peeked inside. As the music, slow and melodic almost haunting washed over him his discomfort washed away and he lost himself in it. He leaned against the doorway and sighed in happiness. He didn't need to see Austria's fingers to know the way they were tripping lightly over the keys so deft and easy as if he'd been born only to play them. In a way he probably had been but history and business often got in the way of what they really wanted out of life. The music drifted off and Austria raised his head to glance towards the door ( ... )

He lifted the bow to the strings and played a few warm up notes and then moved into scales. He cocked his head and listened to the strings sing for a moment adjusting the knobs until it was perfectly tuned. He played a few bars of something scattered in his memories and then feeling a bit more comfortable he moved to join Austria at the piano. Austria said nothing as he pointed out where he'd like them to start. Italy nodded nervously but found himself joining in without hesitation when Austria made a soft movement with his head ( ... )

Then he moved around the piano heading towards the door with a wide grin. Prussia met him half way their fingers touching briefly as they passed. Italy beamed up at Germany as he joined the other nation at the door. Germany seemed at a complete loss to say what he was thinking in response to what he had just heard ( ... )

Fermata (1/1) -- Notes anonymous December 11 2009, 02:34:24 UTC
-- Fermata is a music term of Italian origin meaning to hold a note or a rest within a score. It is recognizable by its birdeye symbol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Fermata.svg) usually found over either the note or rest mark though it can sometimes be found upside down underneath the note or rest as well.
--The violin Italy gifted Austria with was a Stradivarius and I envision one crafted by Antonio Stradivari himself. True Stradivarius instruments are often considered amongst the best ever made though like most things having to do with the musical world his is a controversial statement for some. Antonio Stradivari was from Cremona a small city in Northern Italy.
--I know that it is not exactly canon that Italy is as good at music as he is at art only that he enjoys it but given the strong historical musical culture that came from Northern Italy it feels right to me that he would be.

Ooooh... awesome! I couldn't believe when I saw this in the fills listing. Given as long as the two have interacted, both living in the same household and working on the same team when they're members of the Axis, I find it truly surprising how rarely anyone asks after them (I actually had a couple of my own Austria and Italy requests that I didn't get to post before the freeze). Any sort of fics with interaction between Austria and Italy are so rare, and this is just so beautiful on top of that. I love the way you use the music as a point of connection, as well as the way you tie the past into the present. I agree with you, canon or not, I think Italy would not only appreciate music but that he would be good at it as well. This just totally made my day, author!anon. Thank you so much for writing it!

Firstly thank you so much for such a lovely piece of feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Secondly I couldn't agree more with you I'm often surprised how little Austria/Italy interaction there is out there in fic land. Their connection is just as strong as that of England raising America or Spain raising Romano. Heck Prussia raising Germany gets more attention and that's pretty much just a fan invention as far as I know (I haven't read all the strips yet) so I just don't get why there isn't more with these two out there. Maybe Austria just isn't popular enough... :-/

I've loved this piece. it is true that there was no AuIta (which is... a very intriguing pairing. must try one out in the nearby future...)

but it was just splendid. i've always felt that an artist like italy would excel in music just as much as he does in art (and god knows he's only portrayed as a good for nothing usually), so I enjoyed reading this. duet with austria in a piano and violin setting? it's a dream of mine.

it was beautiful. the pace, the touches of something more, something deeper that is shown with the lingering 'ghost', how it vanishes from past to present...

thanks for writing this, anon. it was truly astounding and i like how you portrayed austria and italy moving together, harmonically... please accept this 3Dash-Anon's soul for the story, was too beautiful for words.

I really was planning on doing the pairing as I love it (and it's so rare I don't even know if anything exists out there other then a few prompts one of which I left myself) but the boys didn't want to cooperate in that way with this one for whatever reason. I'm glad it works as is and that the music comes off as important as I wanted it to be.

*blushes* Thank you so much for such a lovely comment I'm incredibly proud of how this fic turned out and I knew when I posted it I wouldn't get a ton of comments so it really means a lot that you took the time to leave one.

This was really nice, spot-on on a lot of accounts. The little ghost was cute, also rare pairing well written and Italy being is usual self but not a total idiot. The only criticism I have is for the punctuation - you should use more. It's a pity, because I can tell you can set a nice pacing otherwise, but without commas etc. the reader gets a bit lost. I'd be more detailed but my pc has problems tonight. Anyway, good job!

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it despite it's faults. That is something I will strive to correct if I decide to post it at the main com.

But thank you. Thank you so much. I always thought Italy would be good with music, too, now that I think about it. Really wonderful.

I'm just so thrilled that you found it I was a little worried that you might not. I'm sorry that it wasn't closer to the prompt I really did want them to be shippy but the darn characters just wouldn't cooperate with me. :-/ I'm glad you enjoyed it anyway!!
