Re: Under the Sun [15f/?] anonymous September 1 2009, 02:38:26 UTC
With that brief warning, Francis was off. Blue eyes widened, before Alfred followed in pursuit, one hand holding onto the reins while the other kept his hat from flying off. Within a few minutes, he was galloping besides his friend, a sour look crossing the older Nation’s face as he called over. “I see the lessons on proper riding escaped you after all…”

“Nah! This is just how you’re really suppose to ride!”

Something was muttered in French, along with the mention of Antonio (though Alfred didn’t get that last part. He would ask later). Alfred shot his friend a cocky grin. “So, where are we goin’?”

“I already told you, it is a surprise.” Came the equally cheeky response. “Patience, my dear Alfred, patience.”

Alfred really hated the ominous tone that accompanied those words. He really did not like that ( ... )

At that Gilbert snorted, but the three remained silent. Alfred stared at the floor, not letting go of Francis’s hand in the slightest. It wasn’t until Molly commented on how late it had become (and Paul complaining that he wanted to sleep peacefully) that Alfred rose from his spot, heading to his own room. It was only then that he released the older Nation’s hand, though Francis had offered to sit with him until he drifted off. The offer caused a small smile to form. But he declined the offer. He wasn’t a child anymore.

Alfred did not sleep well however. For hours he lay wide awake in his bed, staring dimly at the ceiling. His stomach churning with more and more unease with each passing minute.

”You’ll be fine,” an accented voice assured him, Alfred feeling the mattress sink by his legs. He turned his head to the side, England sitting on his bed, one leg crossed over the other, his chin in his hand. An amused smile was on his face, Alfred jolting upright in surprise. The Island Nation just laughed, shaking his head. ”Did I frighten ( ... )

“Bu-But, I-I couldn’t, couldn’t protect them!”

”You don’t need to protect everyone, you know.” Alfred shook his head, sniffling as he tightened his grip on England’s shirt. ”Alfred, you don’t need to be a hero all the time…”

“I just want to protect them…” He whispered voice hoarse. “You always… You always protected me as a kid…”

”Ah, and look where that lead us,” it wasn’t a jab. Not in the least. Alfred could hear the smile in the elder’s voice. Fingers ran through his hair, Alfred feeling his body suddenly growing heavy. ”Rest, Alfred. You need to sleep.”

“Stay… Please…” His eyes were slipping closed, Alfred loosening his hold on the dream. There was a warm chuckle, Alfred continuing on sleepily. “I’m… Independent. I know yo-you hate me but-”

A gentle kiss was pressed against the top of his head, Alfred looking up blearily. England was smiling at him, continuing to stroke his hair. ”I’ll stay. But only this once, understood?”Alfred remembered smiling before he fell into darkness. A soft lullaby, one he had not heard since he ( ... )

The hour before 4:00 was agonizingly slow. Alfred watched everyone in silence. Liz had come barreling in, an older women following after her. Her mother, he realized belatedly. He watched as Molly spoke with them, before the three women sat down. Rosaries were clutched in Liz and her Mother’s hands, and as he watched the women, he didn’t need to think to hard about what they were doing…

They were praying. Huh, he never took Liz to be that religious.

Shouts issued Paul’s entrance; the other young man stating quite loudly that he was fine, that he was okay and could help. Ruben followed after him. Alfred stood up at this scene, about to say something, but Liz had broken away from the older women, taking Paul’s hand with her own. They didn’t say anything, Paul shutting his eyes tightly, before nodding, allowing Liz to pull him away and back to where her Mother and Molly sat.

Ruben joined the men by the door moments later, and he saw the three older men exchange looks.

“It’ll be fine.” His head snapped around to look at Patrick. The ( ... )

Before Alfred or well anyone could even react, a gunshot bit through the air. Blue eyes widened, a force hitting him square in the chest. There were screams, Vincent and Bill both shouting his name as he fell backwards. Dark spots danced in front of his eyes, accompanied by laughter.

Was that how it was to end?

More gunshots followed the first, and he could hear his two friends (yeah… Yeah he would consider Vincent a friend by now) shouting curses. Curses Trent and his friends all too willingly returned.

Was this it? Had his life as Alfred F. Jones ended? His life as a normal human?

”Its only over if you chose for it to be over.” A soft, British voice reminded him. Alfred blinked, trying to banish the dark spots, suddenly aware of voices shouting out to him.

“Al!? Al can you hear me!?” Ruben? Yes, it was the doctor, the man’s eyes wide. Alfred blinked again, trying to clear his head.

”So it’s up to you Alfred, do you want to end this masquerade you’ve grown so fond of? Or are you going to get up?” Alfred was suddenly more aware ( ... )

That was right. He needed to remain focus. He could not lose himself like he had in the past, he could not give into this Soldier-Mode. He remembered what the other three had told him. First and foremost, he was told to stay focus. If he let his focus slip, then there was a chance he would fall into that trance. Alfred doubted he would have much of a problem with that one. After all, he needed to stay focus if he wanted to get out of this fight ‘alive’. The second thing they had told him was to not let his emotions get the better of him. That had been what triggered each of the previous trances. He had given into his anger, and that had blinded him. Alfred needed to keep his tempter in check. He could do that, he could. At least he hoped he could ( ... )

The gun fight became distant, the sounds of a battlefield echoing in his mind. It was the type of battles he was use too. This was the type of battle he could steel away his emotions in. The type of battle where he could claim a life without hesitation. He could hide, he realized, in this state. He didn’t have to face the awful truth, that he hadn’t been able to protect those close to him, again. That someone had died because of him. In this state he could hide. In this state he could focus on killing Trent. Couldn’t he? Was it really as bad as he had originally thought? As bad as Gilbert, Antonio and Francis had made it out to be ( ... )

The sounds of the battlefield faded away, replaced by gunshots. Slowly, he opened his eyes. He was back in the town, the gun fight still surrounding, but it was dying down now, several pairs of eyes on him And England was Trent now, the man looking at him with wide eyes. Alfred took a steadying breath, looking at where Annie had been moments earlier, a small smile on his lips ( ... )

And then, then he fell to the side. Alfred remained frozen, Francis shouting for Gilbert and Antonio. The two rushed over, the Prussian nearly shoving Alfred to the ground in his hurry. He was shouting something in German. Francis was responding with annoyance, shaking Patrick, the red-head opening his eyes. They were wide within a second, pain shining in them, Patrick seeming to struggle to take a breath. Blood was seeping through his formally white shirt ( ... )

I knew it!!! anonymous September 26 2009, 08:00:36 UTC
I knew it was england! Yes! Go me! Anyway, as always, good fill. Some parts were kinda confusing for me, but I suspect that because it is 4 in the morning here. The most noticeable thing is that.. How was America able to kick trent's guns away, and if he kicked them away, then what did trent shoot? This is the first time I've ever been confused about something though, so don't worry about it. Fight scenes are super hard, and I really love this story and thought the gunfight was exciting, so.... Yeah! Love you, love the story! Thanks so much for writing this!!

Will his friends find otu his AMerica after a freakout like this? Will England survive?I can't wait to read the next chapter! >w

AuthorAnon here. I apologize for any confusion. I probably should've explained more clearly. In my head, while America did kick Trent's guns away, they didn't go very far. And the guy just picked them right back up and fired ^^;

Sorry for any confusion (and your questions shall receive answers very soon~)

This Anon has had a feeling since Patrick's first appearance that this might be the situation. I just couldn't imagine Arthur not coming! He probably used his magic as a disguise.

i'm eagerly waiting for the next installment. <3
