Dear Francis,

How have you been? It’s been a long time since I’ve managed to sit down and write you! I’m sorry for any dust, I’m still on the Wagon Trail so y’know. Dust is normal. It’s been pretty awesome though, it’s not just a stroll in the park either. There’s a lot of work to do. Though, I was already banned from making any of the meals by Becca. She said I was a lost cause… Reminded me of you actually. I remember you told me I was a lost cause when you tried to teach me to cook after the war… She didn’t get why I laughed so much. Heh. But right, it’s been really hard. I mean, I expected the work, but still. Man, I didn’t really expect it, y’know?

I’ve met a lot of really great people here. Except Vincent, I want to punch that guy in the face. He just knows how to push my buttons. And it seems to be his past time to make me cry… I’ve gotten the nick name “cry baby” now. Not everyone calls me it, but it’s enough t be really annoying ( ... )

Oh man. That letter, heart-breaking. ;_;

I love how he keeps writing "Arthur" and having to cross it out; I also love how you write about America missing England and Canada - or, Alfred missing Arthur and Matthew - it's not explored enough I think. I can't wait for the next part.

Minor question, when you say "cooler riding" you're referring to Western-style riding yeah? Which is derived from the Spanish style. I always thought this would be a way for Spain to be linked to the Americas...

I was referring to Western-style riding. I didn't know it was derived from the Spanish style though! I should have looked that up before posting... You learn something new everyday? Thank you~

I'm so excited for this fill. What a good era to explore. The "frontier" is supposedly part of the American psyche (along with the Puritanical streak) so I think this is a great time for Alfred to grow up. *^_^*

I'm a little rusty on my knowledge of westward expansion. I don't remember if Texas was annexed before or after the American Civil War. If it's after the Civil War then there will be outlaws! *_* And Chinese workers, and railroads, and Boomtowns...lol, I'll stop. I look forward to more!

Writer!Anon here~ According to what I've read, Texas became a state around 1845, so it was before the Civil War

...

But as I'm not using a set time period... Those things might appear anyways. This is definitely an interesting time period to write about. Plus... I'm a sucker for cowboys and outlaws~

I'll try and update soon.

orz history fail. ^_^; You wrote it obviously in the time of the 49ers, gold rush and all that. Bah. But that still leaves Boomtowns. Huzzah!

Wait. Never mind. Timeline? What timeline? *nervous laugh*

Why do our people do such cruel things to one another? I don’t get it. Why have I just sat back and let it all happen? Let innocent people be marched out of their homes. People whose ancestors cared for me before you all came to my shores? I knew it was happening, why didn’t I do anything? Francis I don’t understand. I’m horrible ( ... )

That ending… Writer!Anon is not pleased with how this all turned out… But I really wanted to get another segment out. And I really wanted to do this part. Unfortunately, I don’t think it came out too well… Only two more segments until they reach the West~ I hope you all have been enjoying. And I apologize if I have any historical inaccuracies.

I don’t understand Francis. I just... She was so little, y’know? She was so small, but so energetic, so brave. She always stood up for herself, no matter what. She stood up for Paul, for me, for anyone… She just got a little bite. We all thought she’d be fine. I thought she’d be fine. But-

I don’t understand! Why Francis!? She’s-“So here ya are,” Alfred looked up numbly, the words on the worn letter barely readable. He could hardly see Bill, who stood in front of him, through his tears. Bill’s face was solemn as he offered his hand to Alfred. “’lil ladies lookin’ for you ( ... )

“I won’t Annie. I’ll stay,” the words caught in his throat. But he forced them out. He hung his head, more tears flowing. “I’ll stay with you until the end ( ... )

Things were not the same after Annie’s death. That was something painfully obvious to them all. Becca would cry, and when she was not crying she would scream and curse Alfred. She blamed him still. She would always blame him. And Alfred didn’t blame her. It was his fault, it was his sin to carry… Paul was more reserved then before, often just sitting besides Alfred in silence, the two staring off into space. Neither had bothered practicing ‘quick-draw’ since Annie’s death. If it hadn’t been for that, then she might have ( ... )

“But Arthur…”

“It's hard, I know America. But this will not, and is not, the first person dear to you that you’ve lost… And it will not be the last. Wars will come America, and you will lose people you hold dear. Natural disasters will occur, and you will lose people you love. Our people cannot live forever. It is why we must mourn them, like all beings do. But we must move on. We must keep moving forward.”

Alfred said nothing, rubbing his teary eyes with his fist, like a child. “I couldn’t protect that boy Arthur… Or Annie. I couldn’t protect a little girl… Some Nation I am…”

“I’ve failed to protect people I’ve cared for before America. Every Nation has. And every one of us, of our Kind, has made mistakes that have cost people their lives.”

“Yeah right…”

“One day, sit down a look up a woman by the name of Joan of Arc,” there was sadness to his voice. And Alfred could have sworn he felt someone brushing away his tears. “It is an order I still regret fulfilling… But never tell the frog that!”Alfred laughed, loosening his hold ( ... )
