A question I think you didn't especific.
The covers. Are they necesary in the 3-10 pages comic? an should it be in color or black/white?

No, covers aren't necessary, and are discouraged. I'll add that to the guidelines. If you want to do a cover, you can. But it will be in black/white, and not in color. Cover-type illustrations should be submitted as an illustration so they can be in color. But if you just want a cover piece for your comic, it'd be in grayscale. I highly discourage the use of covers.

Ah, can we do black and white illustrations, by any chance? I think if you allow that option, it will be easier for you to print. ^^ If you choose the color option for printing, you can print black and white illustrations in grayscale. c: Tone work is more beneficial if it's for pure black and white print.

Also! You don't want to fit more than two Yonkoma per page, since the break in the middle of the two strips shows they are separate anyway, and also, to avoid clutter.

I hope this can aid you in some way. ;;

Well, what i was planning on doing was color illustrations for a few pages, then print the rest in grayscale. I think i said somewhere before (if not, i gotta edit my post) that you can doing really nice inking for an illustration if you so choose. But i do like the idea of having a few pages in the front being in color, and the rest of the book in grayscale.

And yes, i was thinking 2 per page. I've just seen some people fit three per page, depending on the style of 4koma (as in, how wide they are).

Hmmm, the problem with having color illustrations that it's harder to print them out in a run with pure black and white illustrations. When printing you either have color or black and white options, one being pure black and white which works with 1 bit, black and white images and color which is obvious, but can also work with grayscale that doesn't rely on pure tones (which are black and white). Unless you live in Japan or Asia which has cheaper, high quality, private printing services with many options, it's hard to get books printed with both pure black and white and color/grayscale at the same time.

So, I'd say print in color, you will get best of both worlds.

Yeah, but 8.5x11 isn't an ample amount of space, especially taking bleed width into account. I say stick with two, but that's just me.

Well, we'll figure it out when i actually find the printing service we'll be using. If i have to print the entire thing in color, it'd be the same as color/grayscale, since the rest of the comic would be in grayscale anyways XD;;

If enough people ask to make their comic in color, we'll figure that out.

Wait, 8.5/11 isn't enough space? o.O I think thats plenty space, as long as the artwork and such aren't landscape style.

I'm quite interested in this project! ^^ *new user here, seems the comment I posted here earlier didn't show up... >_>' but however*

Just one question: will this doujinshi/fanzine be printed left-to-right, to accommodate the English language/readership, or right-to-left, like a regular Japanese fanzine?

Samples of my silly Hetalia art/comics can be found at my dA gallery here: http://probablee.deviantart.com Thank you!

Love your art :D

And... gah, another thing i didn't think of XD;; We should probably take a vote on that, right? I was thinking like a normal American fancomic.

Thank you kindly! :'3 I'm not from the States but I'd love to submit something anyway... wouldn't mind doing some 4komas and illos, with the time that I have... is that alright with you? :)

Yeah, it makes more sense. I'd prefer it if it was left-to-right, like an authentic "western" fanzine rather than appropriating it to, well, more Japanese stylings as that's what manga readers are used to. >_<' But hey!

Thats fine! ^^ Just make sure you sign up in that thread. Here's a link: http://community.livejournal.com/hetadoujin/782.html

And yeah, i usually see fan things being done left to right. And since this is the western doujinshi, it should be western style c:

Oh, question. I'm going to sell art at a small con in April, just before the submissions are due. Would you be interested in me advertising the book, or do you want to just wait until Fanime or somesuch before advertising? o:
