Shipper Manifesto: Robbie/Laura (Lewis)

Blurb: I’m a huge lover of this obscure fandom. This may end up being my all time favourite ship as I can’t stop thinking of this couple at the moment. I’ve always felt there was a little “something” in that first Inspector Morse ep that Laura showed up in (The Way Through the Woods). Although at that time she could only flirt with Morse. Robbie was the happily married Sergeant and she was the pathologist with the razor wit. Now there’s no wife but she’s still the queen of snark. Thank the ship Gods for widowerhood.
The biggest pull for me on this couple is that Robbie and Laura started as friends. It’s really evident in the pilot for Lewis. You can tell she’s glad to see he’s come home but she’s also concerned about his well being. They are perfect for one another. She is more than able to put up with his baggage and he already knows her sarcasm. So he wouldn’t be put off. Hopefully after the events of S4 they will be a fully canoned couple when S5 returns.
Simply put this couple’s so darn cute and need to be canon! ;-)

Why This Must Be Read: I wouldn’t say this is my all time favourite R/L fic but it is very close. I love the way duckface666 writes Hobson. Her Hobson is always spot on. IMO Perfectly in character. The way the relationship progresses in the story has such a natural feel to it. It’s totally believable - the detective and the doctor went from good friends to lovers. Another great thing is you get a few different perspectives on the couple. Oh and did I mention the fluff? Fluff and this couple always make for a good combo.

Why This Must Be Read: I know I keep going on about their friendship but it really is at the heart of the ship. This is just a brilliant ficlet. With Robbie being there for Laura this time around. As a couple they really do balance out one another nicely. It’s also nice to see a little kink in Laura’s armour. I love how strong she is but having Robbie to lean on works so well.

Why This Must Be Read: A great follow up to the S4 ep Falling Darkness. Other people’s POV’s about a ship are always fun. This is a grand POV and episode addition. Innocent is a much underused character but her insights in this fic are so in character. Again there is someone who see’s so clearly what the couple is always oblivious to. Also WhyAye has such a great handle on all the Lewis characters. Her stories are always a joy to read.

Why This Must Be Read:Scarlet Secret states pure fluff and she’s not kidding. This story is so sweet it gave me a cavity. ;-) I love the idea of Robbie and Laura trying for some domesticity. Laura’s little bit of panic attack when she contemplates grandchildren is just so adorable. It’s in character and Robbie’s reaction is also on the money. This will never pop on the screen but it’s most plausible for an off screen moment. If they ever do get that next step taken.

Why This Must Be Read: I love this fic just for the simple fact that it has the fab four and R/L running through out it. They mystery is great. All four get equal time and some really grand lines. My favourite part is when Laura goes missing and how on edge Robbie gets. It’s wonderfully done. This is a must read for any R/L lover. The Hobson/Innocent exchanges are also made of win. Those two need more interaction.

I don’t know why I love those smart ares so much. The friendship is once again brought in to the mix and it’s nice to think that Robbie would finally get himself a friend with benefits. The doctor can cure all his ills.
