Three Vic/Walt recs for Longmire

Longmire is an impressively-plotted show with rich, multi-faceted characters who want to jump each other's bones but can't - aka fanfic writer's heaven.  Strangely, there's only a tiny amount of fanfic, but most of it is Vic/Walt, and some of it is marvellous.

Or, yanno, you could read the books on which the show is based.

you could. however,

1. i doubt the walt/vic scenes in the first five books together make it much over the thousand word mark;
2. there's the little matter of the the show being very different from the books; and
3. what's wrong with wanting more?

Nothing at all with wanting more.

I agree that the show is different from the books. Each has its own value, although personally, I think I like the books better (which does not keep me from totally admiring the show's way with a cliffhanger, omg).

There's a lot more than a thousand words of interaction between Walt and Vic in the first five books! (she protests). But if that's the main thing you're looking for, yeah, fanfic is the way to go.

I came to the show as a Katee Sackhoff fan, so the Longmire world for me is TV Longmire. Fanfic (or good fanfic at least) takes the commonalities built on an actor's gestures and presence and interpretation, as well as actual plot, so it extends that world, TV Longmire, in a way that the novels don't necessarily manage to. I say that with no disrespect, simply the belief that they are not the same creative medium.

any chance you could remove your text formatting before you post these?

I'll have to take a look at that. For some reason when I look at it on my browser on theHetreccers page it looks fine, but funky on my own page. And I assumed it would only be my LJ that it did that to, so ignored it. Apologies. (Anyone wanting to tell me what I did wrong, please do :D)

Are you using the "Visual Editor" tab when posting, instead of the "HTML" tab? If I look at your post using the "HTML" view, I can see the spans with your text formatting - so maybe try using that instead?

Okay. I'll try. Even if that tab scares me silly because I'm a techno know-nothing. *nods bravely*

:D

I started with the show, then found the books in the library. Each informs and increases my appreciation for the other. I can read the books with Robert Taylor and Katee Sackhoff in mind, and watch the show with some of Walt's inner musings in mind, and I enjoy both more. I have no trouble keeping the plots separate, but I do use integrate the personalities between book and show to some degree.
