That's brilliant. I love the differences between them, and the constant mention of the rains gives it a lot of ...texture, really, is the best word I can think of. And the fact that Fran shows up at the end - with Ashe's approval - is just the perfect ending to the situation. LOVE.

I have a lot of trouble writing Balthier without Fran (assuming it's not pregame backstoryfic) or vice versa -- so I wasn't surprised at all when, while I was writing, she turned up to 'rescue' him. ♥

Oh, it's understandable - no matter how you ship it, there's a Balthier/Fran bond that just can't really get written off. If you pardon the pun.
