Subject line is not a spoiler. Subject line is my dearest most heartfelt wish for Vince Howard, aka Wallace, aka Michael B. Jordan, aka my boyfriend. And I will hate you forever, Friday Night Lights, if you do not make it so. (Also, though, I will hate you for a long time if you use this to break up Vince and Luke, aka my other boyfriend ( Read more... )

It should amuse you to no end that when my husband was mainlining the first season of FNL a few months ago, he would leave me after dinner and say, "I have to go find out what happens to my friends!" I feel this fits your metaphor about wanting to be roommates with it pretty well. *g*

Also, hurray you're watching HLoTs! It should not surprise you that Frank Pembleton is my favorite TV character of all time. But the whole thing is just such an epic masterpiece, I love everyone who makes it work. I keep trying to tell my best friend in grad school, who studies urban history, that the class/race/gender commentary in the show would make her very happy, but it hasn't quite stuck yet. Stupid dissertations, ruining the TV time.

Haha, yes! I want them all to be my friends! Why can't they be my frieeeeends??

Frank Pembleton is...damn, what a character. So fierce and passionate and unyielding. I knew the stroke was coming, just based on fannish osmosis, but we were both devastated when it happened, and also watching the aftermath (in one of the eps in S5, when Pembleton is still on desk duty and staring forlornly at the box, they played a quick few clips of his glory days in there and it was just terrible -- I'm glad that as of second half of S5 he seems to be regaining his mojo). And his unlikely marriage partnership with Bayliss is one of my favorite things about the show, period ( ... )

FNL has been SO GOOD this season. I honestly didn't think anyone could ever replace Matt Saracen in my heart, but oh, Vince. Vince totally has made a place for himself, and Jess, too. God, I want things to work out for them (not necessarily as a couple, because they're high schoolers, but in terms of college! success! life beyond Dillon!) and I'm terrified that it won't.

Also, HLotS! I think season 6 and 7 have some good episodes, but going in with really low expectations will probably make the bad parts easier to swallow? Maybe? I'm not sure anything can make Falsone palatable? But there's so much awesome in the first five seasons. God. I totally need to do a rewatch.

Vince and Jess could totally be the new Coach and Mrs. Coach one day. I FULLY BELIEVE IT. High school sweethearts ftw! They are so fucking mature and grounded, the both of them, that even when they squabble immaturely (about Jess's job on the team) I love it ( ... )

Man, from your lips to the showrunners' ears. I love how they squabble but it's never melodramatic. I don't think I could take an unhappy end for Vince.

Didn't realize S6 was also less than awesome.

The problem is that they bring in Falsone and I don't use the term lightly, but he comes in as a Mary Sue. He deforms the narrative around him by allegedly being a superawesome detective! whom the ladies love! but he's vulnerable and sensitive because he loves his son! Ugh. So much DO NOT WANT. I think Ballard might have been okay on her own, but they paired them off and bleh.

I love this show so much. I've been downloading the episodes because I cannot bear to wait until next year when NBC airs them.

I'm going to be a mess come the finale, no matter what happens.

I'm a mess practically every episode and I totally expect it will be no holds barred for the finale, heh. And yeah, it's crazy that people have to wait, what, a year between seasons if they can't otherwise *ahem* the episodes? I need to know what happens to my friends!!

I love everything about Friday Night Lights. I was a little irritated at the end of the third season when it got renewed because I thought that the third season was so perfect, with such a *perfect* ending, that I just didn't know if they could keep it going at that level, but I really have been eating my words since. I love all of the new characters, and this season is shaping up to be phenomenal.

I think the reboot to East Dillon has worked really well -- I was excited about it on a meta level given all the possibilities to tell stories from the "other" side of town. But yeah, I also wasn't sure how much I'd care about any new characters, especially given the lovely way S3 sent off various characters. But they've done a great job with the casting and storylines so far.

The one thing I strongly dislike, now that I think about it, is Tim Riggins being in prison. I mean, he never had much of an upward trajectory and it made sense in that context, but dammit. DAMMIT, you know?

I agree about Tim. I don't *hate* it because I did see how it could make sense in that context, but it was still disappointing, especially when there were so many other ways they could have gone with him that I think would have felt more organic to the story. Generally I feel like FNL does right by its characters (except for some of the rockyness of season 2), but yeah something about the Tim storyline now just doesn't sit right.
