A Human Reaction

Dec 21, 2002 03:14

Stan Rice, the husband of Anne Rice, has died of a brain tumor. It happened on December 9th, apparently. He was a painter and a poet, and while I didn't always groove with his style, he had a voice that could express inexplicable aspects of grief. This makes his own passing all the more sad ( Read more... )

I forget - have you subscribed to Wormhole? Because if you hadn't, that would also be a great place for this discussion.

As for the reality of AHR, I think everything was experienced by all of them except Rygel's death. OTOH, John didn't KNOW Aeryn was real when he abandoned her. At that point, I think he thought she was also a fabrication, and it was only later he realized it wasn't so.

Fi wrote a great post-ep for AHR, the name of which I've forgotten, but it's on Leviathan. Just a little tag.

Also the original script for AHR has a tag where some of your questions are answered. I can't say why they chose not to shoot it.

Love watching you feel your way through S1. Makes me want to write that damned story.

For what it's worth, it seems to me that John abandons Aeryn because he thinks she's part of the ploy, and it's only later, when he sees D'Argo and Rygel in that containment cell telling him they're fine, that he realizes what he's done. As for Aeryn, at least, never bringing it up - well, when does Aeryn ever bring things up?

The "did they or didn't they?" question will probably be debated ad infinitum by fans until Farscape drops out of fannish consciousness altogether. Even if certain of the PTB (like the writers) come out and say, Yes, they did (which they have). Because for many people, meta doesn't count. I don't think they were expecting such widespread (and persistent) debate. But I think "yes, they did" was implicit in that exchange between John & Aeryn on the moon in Mind the Baby. I don't know if you've seen it or not, so I won't mention which one unless you say you have. *g ( ... )

Yes. There was a lot of debate at the first, because the "waking up" scene wasn't in the US broadcast, but it does get referenced later -- in the S2 opener. John says something that's phrased ambiguously about him and Aeryn being close, and she gets this confused look on her face and says, "only that one time..."

(This is on the planetoid they're stuck on at the beginning of the episode, and then Dargo blunders into frame, and they get back to arguing about what to do next.)

Agreed that the Ancients in native form look a bit silly. Or rather, to me, they look very much like Muppets, which many of the other Muppet characters don't. Similarly, the bird-critters in Out Of Ours Minds (s2) are dead ringers for the Skeksis in The Dark Crystal. They just don't blend into the worldsrealm as well as, say, Rygel does.

Oh my god.

That is so sad; their daughter Michele died of leukemia (and became immortalized as Claudia)

Very sad. Thank you for passing on the word, though.

//I actually turned on my TV tonight with the full intention of sitting through the original pilot of Firefly, because I felt bad about my recent sour grapes. I swear I gave it my best shot, despite the admitted Farscape bias. I mean, I thought the production design was awesome, the actors were energetic and attractive, and with the exception of "We're humped!" Joss seemed to be in typically fine form with the dialogue ( ... )
