i think on some level, we needed it. it's symbolic, if nothing else. yeah, i didn't expect it either, but with our troops having been over there for so long....at least, now we have something to show for it? backlash is what i'm on the lookout for, since al Qaeda will certainly go on without him. :(

It's true. It is like closure, in a way, even with the threat of backlash. Though the conspiracy theories are already starting.

my sentiments exactly. i am rather embarrassed at how ridiculous the students/young'uns are acting at the gatherings, though. (well, it is America -- i guess it'd be unrealistic to expect otherwise?) you just don't party over someone's death. period. i think one of the interviewees who was personally affected said it best, "I didn't feel celebratory, more reflective."
