Hi :-)

Translation is my own and therefore might suck a bit, but all in all, it's an interesting article, methinks. Anything in [square brackets] are my clarifications. No spoilers for ( Read more... )

Oh, what a great article! Thanks for doing that.

It's a real pity it hasn't found more of an audience, isn't it? I wonder if this is the sort of show that needs to be on a major network where everyone can watch it.

I dunno, after the failure of FNL and the success of some really dumb shows at drawing in an audience, I've given up on trying to figure out how the viewer hive mind works. In Israel, In Treatment was a huge success critically, a the first season won practically all of the awards in our equivalent of the Emmys, and with the audience - but it was only aired on cable, which is why, for example, I never watched it. A year later it was syndicated (if I'm using the term correctly?) on a national channel, and at a later time (I think 11PM as opposed to 10PM), so more people were exposed to it.

But, you know, I'm not sure if this is the type of show that needs a huge audience to survive. It's very, very low cost; if HBO really does depend on subscriptions rather than ratings, then this might be a show that, if it has a good reputation, could lure more people in, or keep people subscribed, and that could be enough.

I'm not sure it's actually that low cost when you have to pay the likes of Gabriel Byrne and Dianne Wiest! But maybe...it would be awfully nice to think that they could keep it on just because they can.
