The fluorescent lights of the Winchesters’ unfortunate choice of a motel room are harsh in Castiel’s eyes. He squints his human eyes against it, uses his human hands to wipe the sweat from them, but none of his efforts in this tiny human form are alleviating the ache radiating from where the creature had bitten him. The poison is spreading quickly, he knows, because he’s already experiencing tremors and a lack of coordination. Sweat is dripping from ever possible orifice this body has. Dean’s sharp, sudden intake of air tells Castiel he knows. “Oh, Cas. Is it your wings? What do I do? Can you show them to me?”

Castiel knows he can, that it’s only witnessing an angel’s grace that takes away a human’s sight, but he is still reluctant. There is only so much one can know about a person before it becomes too much to handle. Though he’ll never admit it, Castiel has always been truly terrified of Dean reaching that point with him. He is, after all, just another thing that the hunter would have ganked without a second thought not so many years ago
