Room 307, saturday evening

Jan 09, 2010 00:28

Momoko had finally cleared the messages from her voicemail. She was confused about most of them, but felt obligated to call them back. She then remembered she had no idea when Dinah wanted to meet up, so she called Dinah back again to ask what time she should come over ( Read more... )

Dinah was flitting back to her room-- Karla was right, you really couldn't get much lift with the wings-- and stopped to peer into Momoko's room. "Did you get my message? I'm betting not."

"Yours and a bunch of other peoples' probably!" Momoko rolled her eyes and grinned, waving Dinah in. "People here make very strange calls! I called back to ask what time you wanted me to come down. Want to chat now?"

"So you did get it? Weird. I didn't get yours," Dinah said, floating in, green wings fluttering, self-consciously checking the bodysuit as she shut the door. "And yeah, I got a bunch of strange calls, I think the phones are all screwed up again. Do you remember, this happened last year?"

"YOU HAVE WINGS!" Momoko was up and circling Dinah, squealing and happily not-touching the pretty pretty WINGS!ZOMG.

"How come you didn't use them before! I didn't know you could fly too! Oh, we so need to go flying someday! Don't you love being in the air? Ah! We could go now! Is it snowing? It's not, right? You should have told me!"

Excited Momoko was excited.

Dinah laughed, and had to hug Momoko for her enthusiasm, then take a breath to try and break in and say, "They're part of the suit, they were a Christmas present from Karla, I haven't even tried them yet, so, no idea how well it'll work? Maybe tomorrow? We were going to go flying, check 'em out." She grinned widely, spirits lifting a bit.

Momoko hugged back, happily tossing in a congratulatory bounce for the new flyer. "Yay for new wings, then! Karla flies too? I didn't know there were so many people who could fly! We should have our own club or group - ooh! Like the magic users do, and the fighters! We could be, like, the air force for Fandom!"

Dinah chortled at that idea, and said, "Maybe? She said there was someone else, too, she was hoping to entice them out-- that might be a way to go?" She grinned back at Momoko, then settled onto the bed, wings fluttering just a little as she breathed. "Priestly talked me into making a fashion statement of them today, anyway. I don't think I'd feel okay wearing them off the island. If the magic's too different somewhere, they may not work."

"That's true. In my world for example, there isn't any magic, so you'd have to test them to see if they would work." She was resisting the urge to touch the wings, but with each flutter her hand kept drifting towards them.

"So it's a suit? Do you wear it under your clothes until you need them?"

Dinah tilted her head, then realized what Momoko was talking about. "For crimefighting? I've never used them for that." And there it was, out in the open. "Karla loaned me some before, but they were just for fun." She grinned. "Go ahead, you can touch them. You won't break them." They were more like gauzy butterfly wings than anything else, but Dinah could sort of sense pressure through them, too. Magic was occasionally just awesome.

"Well, I guess it makes sense not to get used to using them when you fight, if you're not sure that they'll even work all the time. And it's not like you needed them the other day anyway." Momoko reached out and stroked one of the wings gently. "It's soft! Not, like feather soft, but, like silky soft! Aah, now I'm jealous!"

"I'm jealous you can fly all the time," Dinah admitted with a shiver at Momoko's touch on the wings. "I would love to do that. I had so much fun flying with these... I can't imagine why you don't fly all the time." She shook her head. "But yeah, I kind of doubt it would work at home. Better to not get too addicted to something that'll just be an occasional pleasure." Although a hang-glider might be something she'd have to invest in.

"Not all the time! Just when I'm Blossom," Momoko replied as she pulled back and sat down. "Unless you mean in a machine, like a helicopter or a shuttle or mecha or something. Cause I can fly as me then. It's not the same, though, as feeling the freedom of being in the air and just letting the wind hold you." her eyes went a bit blurry. She really needed to go flying again soon, and not for 'work'.

"And I don't transform into Blossom unless I need to." Like when she wants to rush through chores at superspeed, or when she misses the last train, or when her latest crush rejects her, or she has a phys ed teacher who uses live ammo...

Dinah tilted her head, studying Momoko, the wetness of her eyes, and said, "So, Blossom. Is it magic? Or something else? I saw the compact, but I wasn't sure how it worked."

"Nope. Not magic, science! When I was 13, I was hit with a beam of light that turned out to be Chemical Z." Momoko leaned back and swung her feet. "I don't know how it works, besides that. The professor explains what he and Ken discover, but I kind of zone out when they start talking. I'm just happy that my dream came true!"

"To be a superhero," Dinah said, her voice soft, and pulled up her legs to sit wholly on the bed. "Right?"

"Yep!" Momoko nodded happily. "I haven't gotten the 'get married to a cute guy who's totally in love with me and have a happy life growing old together' wish granted yet." She grinned as she leaned over to nudge Dinah's shoulder lightly with her own. "You want to be a detective, right? Isn't that your dream?" She'd said so in class, hadn't she?
