MOD POST

I have to apologize for not being around to keep an eye on things much lately, but it sounds like we might need another revision to the rules. The current rules ask that you refrain from making the font huge on any entries you make to this community, but some entries are slipping in with that "not huge, but still kind of annoyingly big" size. I would actually like to suggest a rule...It's really annoying when someone posts a fic here and then requires you to friend their locked journal to read it. The entire point of there being a community for this kind of thing is for the community to be able to read fic without jumping through hoops for it, right? People are allowed to lock their fic inside the community, aren't they? Can't we make it a rule that they have to do that instead? Because when they make you friend their journal to read, it becomes more about attention whoring than it does about sharing fic, which is what this (or any) fic community is about.

I totally understand the annoyance factor on that, and I'm actually one that tends not to read stuff that's locked (mostly because I'm far too lazy to actually go about trying to get friended), but I can see it from the writer's point of view, too. Some of it may be about attention, but I do think there are writers who are genuinely concerned about being found out by friends/family/co-workers/The Powers That Be ( ... )

No, I just saw one recently where you were required to friend the person's journal to read their fic. It just doesn't sit well with me and I know it's a rule not to do that in a lot of fic communities, so I just thought I'd ask. Thanks anyway.

i'd definitely like to agree with the last sentence. <3 when fonts are abnormally large and you do a lot of mismatched html in your fic post, it really makes a lot of users disinclined to even click those links that you try so desperately to get noticed.

and thanks again for this, quarterturn! ♥
