Yes, Peter at the start here had horrible timing! It makes one wonder where the hell they got that 'empath' thing. While yes, he's spending his life and time helping others (nurse, living for other people, in Nathan's shadow, etc.), his personal empathy seems only somewhat above Nirav's. You know, guy on the floor unconscious, girlfriend (whom Peter is interested in!) weeping above him, and Peter wanders off instead of playing hero for the girl! And his complete disinterest in what's going on with Nathan - Nathan's having a crisis: recently lost his father, wife's in a wheelchair, is struggling through this election and losing; and Peter has not word one of comfort or solace for his brother. The best he does is order Nathan out of the room when Nathan starts to chew on his mother for getting arrested ( ... )

When you put it that way, it shoes actual contrast from what he was to what he became (with his abilities, or even how they changed him so drastically). I like that because it means Peter wasn't always quite so "perfect" if you will.

Transition! That's the word, yes.

Maybe that's what Nathan meant by "It's time to grow up," that Peter has been doing some goofing off, or worse, acting out now that Arthur is dead - it's not going well because Ma and Nathan are having infinantely more difficult and "important" problems, so once again, Peter is ignored on top of that transition, which is also ignored.

Peter does look tired. I doubt he's getting much sleep. He's falling asleep on his job (embarrassing, and he's embarrassed about it) and he says that every time he shuts his eyes he has these vivid dreams.

I'm glad to see Sylar's…notice/complaints of Peter's "lack of focus" in MBU. It has some basis. I mean, people dying here! It also makes me glad that being an EMT was an actual growth step for him - he wanted to be prepared and improve his medical foundation. He really is a hero (though is is/was also heroic as a hospice nurse).

"I think I should start with something smaller [than the Brooklyn Bridge]" goes right out the window…

It starts with Peter, dreaming. :) Followed swiftly be an incest joke.

Mohinder's students seem unimpressed. I wonder what he was teaching? He just seems to be rambling. I'd be unimpressed, too. Imagine if you were a student, had paid for a class on say, evolution, and you have this weirdo show up and harp about cockroaches and teleportation. I'd be like, 'what the hell, man? Can't you tell me something actually useful here?'

I work with a guy named Nirav. One thing I've learned about grief and losing one's father - it is highly inappropriate to tell someone they need to let go. And to say that within an hour of them finding out their father is dead? WTF, Nirav! What's wrong with your emotions?

Ah! The reason for the choice to film rain outside was to make Mohinder's flash look less obvious.

Also, WTF, real life people?!? It's been 10 minutes into the show and I've had two phone calls and my daughter needing something. And now the DVD player has gone on pause. Grr.

Great points about Mohinder and him helping Eden grieve rather than dealing with anything himself. Or even seeming to need to deal with it. Peter's later response to Nathan passing away is positively healthy in comparison!

The incest joke is when Simone says Charles sees Peter like a son, and Peter says that would make dating her inconvenient, because then they'd be brother and sister.

Wow, she got dressed in record time!

And here's another of Peter's dreams.

Claire ... yeah, Zach's right that she's a bit dramatic. But on the other hand, given that she's become Ms. Indestructo, a little drama might be called for.

Hiro's ability manifests initially with him looking at a clock. Sylar and clocks; Hiro and clocks - ultimate villain and ultimate hero. I guess that deposes Peter from the 'ultimate' thing.

Peter takes charge at the police station. That's interesting to see. Nathan's over there blustering and being insecure, but Peter's assessing, quietly in charge, and orders Nathan to leave. Nathan does. Then Peter tells his mother what to do as well - that she needs to edit herself. He is very firm on his view of reality - there are no rose-colored glasses. He knows he can fly. He knows the dreams are weird. He knows she talks him down. He knows he's feeling a connection to Nathan. Peter might not be getting what he wants, but he's very dominant here ( ... )

Nathan = drama queen, making extreme choices (either sacrificing himself or family members) in an attempt to "do the right thing, serve the greater good" and be a soldier that way for having made the hard choices. Yet he's the one who runs - or flies - away and cries in a bottle. He worries about where his actions leave him - heaven or hell; and I think he acts out of fear nearly always. I don't know what he is. He makes an okay soldier, but he's forced into much larger roles than he can ever hope to fill. He's a bad fit for leadership - and morals ( ... )
