It's the day before Valentine's Day. To Clark, however, it's just another day. In fact, chances are it hasn't even occurred to him that it's nearing on any sort of special occasion. As far as he's concerned, he and Anna are just meeting Chloe and Jimmy for a cup of coffee and small talk at the Talon. Nothing special

Clark nods back in acknowledgment and then closes his eyes as a familiar voice sounds from behind him.

"Hey, guys," Lois makes a face at all the decorations, not entirely dissimilar to the one Clark was giving them earlier. "Is it really wrong that I want these chubby cherubs to burst into flames?"

Clark, sensing an ally for once, drags a chair over and scoots his own to the side to make room for her. "Welcome to the love fest."

Lois sits and gives him a bright, fake smile. "Yeah, and me without my uzi."

"You haven't heard this?" Lois asks incredulously.

"It's not exactly a topic for public conversation, Lois," Clark says, tiredly.

She mock sighs. "Well, if you don't want to be honest with her..."

[downsidedarling]

Chuckle.

"Maybe later."

"Have it your way," Lois waves it off and then sighs for real. "You know, this sucks. At least one of you is supposed to be single so I don't have to bash this stupid holiday all by myself."

"Maybe next year will be better," Chloe offers helpfully.

"Yeah, right. Huh, you know, maybe I should go hunt down the Green Arrow. At least I know he'd be able to keep me occupied."

Chloe nearly chokes on her latte. Clark glares at her.

Anna makes her I'm-missing-something face at Chloe, echoed a moment later by Jimmy, but neither of them actually asks the perfect question.

Instead, Anna shrugs. "I've never seen the need to bash Valentine's Day just because you aren't in a position to celebrate. Why not sit back, ignore the foolishness, and allow the rest of the world to have their fun?"

Chloe just makes an apologetic face at both of them, but raises an eyebrow at Anna. This is perhaps to indicate that she might get an explanation later.

Lois, on the other hand, leans on the table, almost across Clark to address Anna directly. "You know, I should be ina position to celebrate. But my idiot boyfriend decided to... well, be an idiot ex-boyfriend."

"I'm sure he had his reasons, Lois." Clark may sound surprisingly sympathetic.

"Sure. Like 'Oliver's an idiot.' God, now I'm depressed again. Thanks a lot, Smallville." Lois shoves her chair back and stands. "I think I'm going to go drown my sorrows in a vat of rocky road. Enjoy your cardboard hearts and cotton cloud nines. Oh, and don't choke on any sparkles."

"Désolée," murmurs Anna sympathetically.

Just because Lois is rude doesn't mean she's not human, and Anna is at this point very nearly hardwired to feel for people.

Clark sighs heavily after Lois is gone.

"Well, I've had my fill of fat babies with arrows. Come on, Anna, I'll take you home."

"Sounds good to me."

Why, yes, that is a bit of a smirk.

It's the day before Valentine's Day, after all, and her boyfriend is taking her home. Why, anything could happen!

Chloe waves them off. "Go on, you two. I think Jimmy and I are going to actually enjoy all this a little more."

"Yeah. You have fun with that." Clark makes a face and then holds out hand for Anna.

[downsidedarling]

"See you," says Anna cheerfully to Chloe and Jimmy, taking Clark's hand and waving.

"See you," Jimmy returns, waving back before turning his attention to his girlfriend.

They walk out to the truck in silence, but once they're seated, Clark glances over at her.

"Let's not ever do that again, okay?"

[downsidedarling]

Headtilt.

"Do what again?"

[hero_farmboy]

He waves a hand in the general direction of the Talon.

"That. Whatever that was."

[downsidedarling]

"...okay, you've lost me, cheri."

Anna scratches her head.

"What was bad there? We went out for coffee and were made mildly uncomfortable. So?"

"Mildly?" Clark sighs and heads toward the farm. Might as well get the truck back there before taking Anna to her place the faster way.
