It's the day before Valentine's Day. To Clark, however, it's just another day. In fact, chances are it hasn't even occurred to him that it's nearing on any sort of special occasion. As far as he's concerned, he and Anna are just meeting Chloe and Jimmy for a cup of coffee and small talk at the Talon. Nothing special

He waves a hand in the general direction of the Talon.

"That. Whatever that was."

[downsidedarling]

"...okay, you've lost me, cheri."

Anna scratches her head.

"What was bad there? We went out for coffee and were made mildly uncomfortable. So?"

[hero_farmboy]

"Mildly?" Clark sighs and heads toward the farm. Might as well get the truck back there before taking Anna to her place the faster way.

[downsidedarling]

"Fine, fine. Still. What are we going to do to prevent the recurrence of such unpleasantness?"

Apparently she's feeling lyrical today.

[hero_farmboy]

"We should never speak to Lois again," he replies, very seriously.

[downsidedarling]

This occasions a tiny smirk.

"She really doesn't like me, you know. I can't imagine why. I'm more or less inoffensive, aren't I?"

[hero_farmboy]

"Anna, she does like me and look what I have to put up with," Clark points out. "I think you're better off."

[downsidedarling]

"Granted, granted."

She chuckles.

"Still, if I weren't in such a good mood it'd irk me a little."

[hero_farmboy]

"Well, it irked me plenty. She's not usually that bad." He sighs. "She's had a tough time since Oliver left."

[downsidedarling]

"Sounds like it, yeah. What was his deal, anyways?"

[hero_farmboy]

There's another sigh and a brief hesitation before he answers.

"Oliver... he doesn't have abilities like I do but, well, he's the Green Arrow. He's got a whole get-up to hide who he really is and he's one hell of a shot. He and Lex really don't get along - worse than Lex and I do - and while he was here last year, he'd made it his mission to bring Lex and his experiments down. He rounded up some other guys, myself included, and we infiltrated one of Lex's facilities; probably one a lot like the one he head you in, actually. He blew it up, but not before one of the other guys was able to get a lot of information about other facilities from the mainframe in the building."

Clark shrugs, pulling the truck into the farm's long driveway. "They left right afterward to go take more of them out, to continue to bring Lex down. Lois doesn't know any of that, of course. She just thinks he left her because he couldn't commit."

[downsidedarling]

"Huh. Okay, that makes sense. Explains how she was acting, too. Man, that must suck. For Ollie not being able to tell his girlfriend why he's running off, I mean. The fact that it sucks for Lois is pretty much self-evident."

[hero_farmboy]

"Yeah, it does suck. They really liked each other. They were in love. Makes you wonder how different things would have been if he'd chosen to tell her the truth," Clark says quietly.

[downsidedarling]

"Yeah, it does." Anna shrugs. "I can't imagine it would've turned out any worse than it already has, somehow. But," and here she smiles slightly, "I've always been the 'honesty is the best policy' type. Who knows, really."

[hero_farmboy]

"Yeah," Clark shakes his head slightly. "Anyway, I'm sorry she took it out on you."

[downsidedarling]

"Eh, whatever. I've had worse."
