Clark doesn't help all that much with the food. Cutting bread doesn't really count and frankly, Anna not only seems to have things under control, she likes it that way, so he figures staying out of her hair is the best option

"Anytime," Chloe smiles and then ushers Jimmy toward the elevator and inside.
Once they're gone, Clark sighs loudly and goes back into the kitchen. It might sound like he's throwing the dishes around, but he's not. He's just close to it.
Anna's going to go to the couch, too. And perch. On the back. At a reasonable distance from Clark - not close enough to be crowding, not far enough to be avoiding. It's a calculation she's had to make many times, and she's gotten quite good at it.

And then, rather tentatively, she gives him a hug.
"Sorry." She throws the word out like a net, attempting to catch thereby every bad thing that's ever happened to Clark, and offer an apology for each.

She's going to completely ignore the fact that he's hugging her with about as much enthusiasm as he would a cactus. Yep. Uh-huh.
Oh look, dishes. To be cleaned. Imagine that. What an excellent distraction from cactus hugs.

Which is what they'd just done, wasn't it. They had a dinner party. With guests.
Clark is going to just go flop on the couch again and try and figure out how the hell he ended up here to begin with.
