Anna's been gone for hours. Clark doesn't know whether to be frustrated, worried, upset, scared, furious, nervous, or just plain angry. So he takes turns with each one ( Read more... )

A limo pulls up into Clark's driveway. Eights steps out of it, thanks the driver, and walks to Clark's door with even grace.

Upon opening the door, Anna dashes inside and delivers to Clark what can only be described as a ferocious glomp.

The glomp is returned. Well, Clark would never call it that, but it involves him practically squeezing the breath out of Anna and her feet leaving the ground and him burying his face in her hair.

Quite possibly he won't be putting her down or letting her go anytime soon.

"I'm sorry," she says, muffled. "I got carried away and I wasn't on my guard and I kind of got drugged and kidnapped and then I woke up all naked and strapped to a table and it was annoying so I did the fire-move thing to get away, and Lex was in the building watching the whole thing on a monitor so I fire-moved him to the middle of nowhere and tried to threaten him into admitting he was behind it all but he wouldn't even though it was really fucking obvious and I thought better of it and took him back home and then I had to wait for him to get me my clothes."

Deep breath.

"So I'm sorry I took so long and I promise I won't do anything that stupid again."

That all doesn't even remotely get through.

"Wait, what?"

She gives Clark one last squeeze and steps back so she can talk to him properly, keeping hold of his hands.

"To make a long story short, Lex had me kidnapped and experimented on, I got angry and ended up kidnapping him back, then I realized that was a dumb idea so I sent him back home. There's details, but they're not terribly important." It's always best to leave out the nudity and death threats when talking to Clark, really.

Clark just stares at her for a few moments before attempting to say anything. He really wants to make sure he's really, truly understanding all this.

"Lex kidnapped you and experimented on you but you escaped and kidnapped him back and then he just... let you go?"

It doesn't feel as though she's been gone long enough for all that, but this is Anna. Clark's learned to accept that anything is possible when she's involved.

"I... yeah, okay, it sounds kind of dumb like that, doesn't it." She runs a hand through her hair, releasing one of Clark's in order to do so. "Trust me, it all made sense at the time. And he still denies being responsible for the kidnapping and experiments, but he and I both know that's just for show; he was in the building watching the whole thing on video when I escaped."

Clark furrows his brow, still trying to sort through everything in his mind and decide what the prevalent emotion should be at this particular time. More hugging, however, is the immediate course of action.

"What did he say about it?"

"Claimed he'd just got there. Does it matter? It wasn't true."

She hugs back.

"I seem to have landed a truce, though, and I don't think he'll be trying that on me again."

There are plenty of things Clark could say to all of this, now that it's starting to make some sense. He could say that Anna should never have run off to begin with, that he warned her what Lex was like. He could say that maybe Lex was telling the truth and he really didn't have anything to do with it, because deep down, Clark has never wanted to believe Lex would fall so far despite everything he himself has seen.

But he decides to leave all of that for later. Any anger he had more or less evaporated the second he wrapped his arms around her and now, he just wants to make sure she's safe and stays that way.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah. I'm fine." She shakes her head, smiling softly. "I... tired, a little. All that fire-moving kind of takes it out of me; I didn't stop to rest 'cause I was too pissed off, and then because I was too proud to let Lex see how much it affected me, and then 'cause I was worried I'd upset you, and--" She stumbles and puts a hand to her head. "...okay, tired now," finishes Anna in a mumble.

Clark catches her about the waist and leans her against him for support.

"Come on, you're going to bed."

She sighs gratefully, tilting her head up to kiss him on the cheek. (Well, she aims for the cheek, anyways. She mostly catches jaw.)

"Thanks, Clark," she murmurs. She wants to add something about how wonderful he is, but is too tired to come up with anything that won't sound trite and overdone. So she settles for wrapping an arm around his waist and squeezing.

He smiles a little at the kiss and then leads her upstairs, all but carrying her to his room. Once she's settled under the covers, he sits on the edge of the bed and brushes her hair out of her eyes.

"Do you want me to stay?"

"Yeah," says Anna, smiling and putting her hand gently over his. "Please? You make me feel safe."

"All right." Clark stretches out beside her and puts an arm around her shoulders, letting her rest her head on his chest.
