On Thursday at the gym Rita (who works downstairs in Finance) and I were walking from the check-in counter to the locker room and she casually asked me, "What are you doing here?"
me: [very confused as to what the question was] "Uh, going to the gym?"
Rita: "You're not taking a class?"
me: "Oh, no, I'm just working out."

You know, I always wonder about explanatory text accompanying art (or at least, contemporary art, b/c I think when it's older, or from a culture that does not normally receive a lot of attention, it's often good to have some context), b/c, well:
1. I would think that if the art requires a written explanation of what the artist is doing, then the artist isn't doing a good enough job with the art; shouldn't the visual speak for itself, to some extent?
2. Explanatory text also suggests (to me) that either the artist is uncomfortable with interpretations other than his/her own, OR that the artist believes that viewers are not smart or perceptive enough to interpret a work of art with any degree of sophistication...that they need it explained to them, essentially.
