Gee, that was a subtle title. What, no puns?

What? Nothing on the Sara/Sophia dynamic? theatre_pixie January 8 2006, 04:03:08 UTC
I'm shocked.

I honestly have no idea what happened beyond "We don't like each other very much, so we'll just be all snippy and catty and girlish," but every time I see a scene like that one on CSI, I find myself disliking Sophia more and more (can't help it, I like Sara). However, even though Sophia isn't my favorite, I'm always disappointed when her mature approach gives way to anger/frustration. She seems to have so much patience and understanding and I don't like it when she looses her cool--especially with Sara, who I see as being the most fragile member of the CSI team.

I'd forgotten about that scene by the time I got around to writing up my reaction to the episode. I meant to mention that I actually didn't dislike Sofia in this episode. She's grown on me.

Sara is fragile, but because she puts up such a brash front I'm not sure everyone she works with actually realizes that.

The telephone scene I could definitely sympathize with Sofia. Sara shows up (Sofia called her to say they traced the anonymous tip to this pay phone and she figured they'd wanna process it) and Sofia's all "I called you like 3 hours ago" and Sara's like, "I had stuff to finish." Then she actually looks at the payphone and says, "There's already fingerprint powder on the phone," and Sofia says something like, "I got bored." I didn't think she was *too* out of line and as someone who's very punctual and so on, I really sympathized with Sofia's frustration.

Sofia is growing on me. I'm still not a fan and I will never EVER support the Grissom/Sophia pairing, but as her character develops... we'll see.

Sara does put on a front. I wonder if that's something she learned as she was growing up. Abusive father, then abused mother killing abusive father, growing up in foster care... yeah, she's probably extremely cautious as to who she allows into her life. And Grissom being the kind of guy that he is, the only way anyone's going to see past Sara's brashness is if they're really trying (or if she lets her guard down, which doesn't happen terribly often ( ... )

Having no real memories of Sofia prior to this season, I'm definitely not interested in Grissom/Sofia as a pairing. I can see where it would come from, but it just doesn't feel right.

I definitely think Sara learned early on to put up a front given all she's been through. And she's definitely very cautious about whom she lets get close.

I didn't think this particular instance was too excessive an instance of undermining Sofia's characterization, but I will be frustrated if it becomes a regular occurrence to have "Look, Sara and Sofia are being snippy with each other" scene.

It took me a while to decide on an icon for this post 'cause I didn't have any obvious choices like a werewolf icon, but I was pleased with my choice. And yes, Angel was good.
