Contains spoilers for The Last Battle and sheldrake’s Narnia fic “Growing Up” (which i really recommend you read before i start talking about it -- warning: not a happy fic).
I read Narnia only once, as a young teenager I believe, and I remember how incredibly upset I was about how Lewis made Susan "evil" in the last book. I identifed more with Susan than any other character, and I took her fall from grace rather, well, personally. It's one of the main reasons why I haven't revisited the series since then.
I have vague memories of reading the whole series when i was in maybe middle school, but the only book i had real memories of was The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. I reread the whole series this Christmas Break, though. Lucy's clearly the Golden Child, but that one section in The Last Battle is really the only vilification of Susan. Not that it isn't more than enough, of course. Just that one could probably reread most of the series without pain. I'm actually now curious to reread it, or at least The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe and the other books Susan is in to watch carefully the treatment of her character. I also want to write angry essays on the idylization of childhood.
That tends to be my thought, but there is definitely that Final Judgment scene wherein some are slated for destruction, so he's clearly not entirely my Jesus.
