The FCC's local number portability rules mean you can take your number to any carrier for free. If you do switch carriers, the employees there will have done it a million times before and it's pretty painless. They will also know more than me about transferring contacts from less-smart phones to smartphones, but I'm given to understand that it's pretty straightforward when the reason for the upgrade isn't that the previous phone has been destroyed in some kind of mishap.

I think smartphones that come with physical keyboards are getting thin on the ground, though. A third-party keyboard case might be an easier option.

Steering wheel direction while reversing is deeply weird.

I will second that pretty much no one finds driving in reverse intuitive at first.
